Hey everyone,

I was looking at getting a set of the 5 lug RW wheels for my 17 LC. First, will these fit with not issues? It seems like it’s a non issue. Just move TPMS over from factory wheels, and done.

Also, I want to stick with stock tire size. 285/60R18. What will this translate to with the RW wheels? I don’t want any issues, or to have my speedo be off. Is that possible?

Not many high quality options out there. I saw the EVO corse, but not sure how those are, or if any modification is needed. Hard to find high quality, elegant, and direct fit.
 
285/65r17 will be the equivalent of the stock size for a 17" wheel. If staying with a stock or close-to-stock size, the rock warriors are probably the best option out there (if you can find them for a reasonable price). I believe they are something like a +55 offset, where most of the aftermarket 17's are anywhere from 0 to +35 offset. The rock warriors will keep your alignment and geometry just right for a stock-ish tire size. If you can find an aftermarket wheel with +45 to +60 offset, then that's a good option too.

The lower offsets are really best suited to oversized tires.
 
Someone with rock warrior experience needs to weigh in on whether the oem tpms will fit.
 
Rock Warriors were designed for a specific upsized tire of size LT285/70R17.

It has an offset of +50 (different from the factor +60), specifically to correct for the larger 32.8" overall diameter of the above size.

Everything you want to know about fitment in the instructions attached.

I can confirm OEM TPMS from a 2013 LC will fit RW wheels no problem, I know OP said he has a '17 and remember reading something about TPMS differing slightly depending on the model year you have, but I believe the difference is internal and not of the shape of the TPMS itself.

Looking online, OEM sensor for '13 LC looks identical in shape/size to one that would fit a '17 so swapping TPMS shouldn't be an issue

Correct.

Teckis is also correct, Rock Warriors were built from the ground up to run 285/70R17, and they do that really well on the 200 platform. Note that “Landcruiser” is part of the file name and header of the install instructions.

Completely off topic but per our other various chats about the HE… would have been super interesting to see bronze, forged 17s with upsized tires for the “special edition” but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

Love the rock warriors, if I could have bought them new from the dealer I would have gone that route.

Also, it looks like there was two versions of RW. The trim ring was the only difference?

Short answer, it should work just fine with 285/65R17s.

I think as we modify, we're inherently accepting some trades. This one might be barely noticeable and should work great.

I wouldn't say "better", they are both great wheels within their groups, and both have distinct looks. Either would work great on a 200, though I'd say the HE wheels have a really slight edge if you want to stick with stock size, as that's what they were designed for in the first place. Plus you can use your existing lugs.

That I know of Rock Warriors were only available in two variants, 5 and 6 lug. Some people choose to run them without the rings though, so that could be what you are seeing.
 
There were 2 part numbers for the 5 lug version. And the only difference was recesses in the back of the rings to allow water to drain out. The center caps also came in 2 versions, but they never came with the wheels I don’t think, so that’s a separate story. Not sure if the changes were corresponding.

There’s really no reason not to run the 285/70R17 on a rock warrior. The effect on the speedometer is minimal, enough so that Toyota was okay with fudging it. There will be far more tire options in that size as well.

Thank you! Will the 285/70R17 require any modifications? I don’t want to cut or remove anything. My truck is stock. Only mod I might make down the road is either Dobinson or BP-51’s. But, I’m not trying to go for lift. Just ride quality, and maybe remove a little rake.

I’m not well versed in the back story of the RW wheels. The gentleman above mentioned the 285/65R17 would be the comparable size to my stock wheels and tires. Just trying to gather all of this and learn.

My comment above about this wheel/tire size being something that could/should have come on the HE is mostly related to my belief that the best upgrades for vehicles like ours have a few common themes:

A) Simplicity. Keep the vehicle as close to factory as possible — these wheels being an OEM option checks that box.

B) Focus on function. These wheels with the larger tire option do exactly that — no better way to improve performance offroad than adding more “real” ground clearance with larger tires.

C) Don’t detract from the original appeal of the Landcruiser. I would never suggest something that inherently makes the vehicle less reliable, less durable, or less serviceable. Again, being an OEM option means, to me anyway, that this isn’t a concern and the rock warriors are stronger and lighter than nearly anything else you’ll find, and the tire size you would be moving to allows for a much wider range of options.

Again, just my two cents

Thank you for the thoughtful response. This means a lot. I’m not a guru, and just trying to learn. I usually have to go to google to try and find threads on this forum. Sometimes it’s a mixed bag. I know it’s not widely accepted to have a million posts about certain topics discussed already.
