Last weekend, the brothers and I ripped out the nasty PO carpet to prep for bedliner. I knew we would have some rust issues as you can see the PO sheet metal from underneath. None of us have any welding experience and need the advice of mud.

The driver's side is the worst part. Although the carpet residue is still there, you can see that the PO welded in some sheet metal. From underneath you can see where he cut out the old floor (rust circling the cut) and where he put the sheet metal over the old stuff. Should we get replacement panels or have a fabricator just cut some thick gauge steel to replace what is there. We are shooting for function over beauty. I just don't want to do it to where the cancer remains and spreads under the bedliner.

The passenger side rocker is pretty shot, but I didn't get a good picture of it. At least the bed is in decent shape.

I have seen a lot worse than that, even in my own driveway. You can get panels from outfits like Canada Cruisers, but if you can find a good welder that knows his stuff he could make repair panels, especially if form is not as important as function.

I wish my floor looked that "bad".

stab at your floorboards with a drift, if your drift does not go through your floor then "clean the piss out of it" and shoot your bed liner. Personally your metal does not look THAT bad. My 2 cents

sand blast it- then you should really be able to tell what's under there. If its clean then spray your bedliner.

spread gas all over the metal and light it on fire and it will burn away all the rust and you wont have to worry about it rotting out, ever.

Looks like your rust is in 1-2 inch sections, just cut them out with an angle grinder, get a sheet of metal and weld in small sections.
Actually looks really good in those pics..

i find patch panels from the beds of pickup trucks can work welll for rusty floor boards

some junkyards near me let me cut and pull parts from older trucks before they go to crusher

if your floors are bad (your pictures dont help much) you might want to try my suggestion

Just and blast it, assess the real damage then. Whatever is rusty, cut out and have a pro weld in patch panels.
i am going to do the same since my rig will be for function, and since it's a floorpanel WGAS. Plus, you are using bedliner over it anyway. I want the best looking rig possible but the OE replacement panels cost waaaaaay too much and spending money on that is just dumb unless it's going to be a show car. Imagine what $2000 would do in wheels and tires and suspension, or even a new V8..........when you have the scratch, redo them.
