Planning on doing a very messy rustproofing job soon. My 45 from AU has ZERO rust on it and the Massachusetts roads will be unforgiving even if I drive it only occasionally on salty roads.

I'm planning on doing auto transmission fluid through a pump sprayer for underneath and inside the frame rails. To catch the drips I'm going to put a tarp under it with cat litter to absorb the puddles.

Is there a better way? I don't forsee any frame welding to be done anytime soon which is good. Rubberized undercoating is too expensive and can be worse if done wrong.

Any input would be great as we had our first flakes this weekend!!!

(I looked in the FAQ section and also searched "rustproofing" on this forum and found nothing.)

if you are looking for alil cheaper and easyer to find...i have used "Open Gear Lube" from Napa.
It comes in an aerosol its a little messy....but...its a very sticky film when sprayed...I think it's a high paraffin lube.

When i did my body over 12+ yrs ago...i did it for 2 years...seamed to work well...but...the dumb %^#$ I am ...i stoped doing it...lazy...and cheap...and now i'm paying the price :)

It was like 5.99 a can

My brother just had his under carriage sprayed with a bedliner type stuff. IIRC, it cost less than $150.

That AMSOIL stuff looks interesting and it's only $7. Waxoyl was $24 for a 500ml spray can! Getting the Waxoyl done at that place in MA would be just about $1K.

I think the AMSOIL stuff will work but still do oil in the frame rails. The wicking effect of ATF fluid should keep it covered for a long time and work it's way into tough places.

Bedliner stuff scares me underneath as the technicians don't tape off everything they should so repairs become a huge pain later

Thanks for the recommendations! Keep them coming!

I get this done annually
KROWN RUST CONTROL

is pretty popular up here and seems to slow down the rust.

Also doesn't harm rubber or electrical parts

Now I'm leaning towards the Boeshield T-9. Thinking of not doing the ATF fluid now as I was very concerned about the mess in my garage and disposal of the oil drips. If it's good enough for aircraft it must work!

Fluid Film

I just did it with Fluid Film I ordered up a gallon for my 60 and sprayed it with an old Wagner House paint gun. Great stuff to work with and looks good underneath. I have driven with it in the snow/slush in OH and with a quick rinse in the garage it looks like the stuff was just put on.

which one do you use?

the HD?

is it thin enough to pump spray...and then thickens up to the air?

I use the one in the red sprayer. Look under marine.

It is thin enough to pump spray but just doesn't have a huge fan like aerosol. It is thicker out of the bottle than aerosol.

Fluid Film: Corrosion Preventive, Lubricant and Rust Inhibitor

Great stuff too.

I use bar and chain oil. Heat it up and spray it using a cheap engine cleaner wand. The hotter the better at this point of year, you want a really low viscosity since it wont warm up and flow until summer.
