I picked up my 80 in Colorado, and the undercarriage is in really good shape (compared to a local Vermont rig). I'd like to keep the frame and axles in the good condition they are in as long as possible.

I get ads for Eastwood's rust encapsulating paint, and have heard about Chassis Saver and have used POR 15.

Could anyone who has used a rust encapsulating paint on their frame say how it has held up?

I don't want to end up with a situation like happens with undercoating where rust is trapped and continues to eat away the metal hidden from sight.

I'm not looking to do a frame off job. I'd like to do a quick spray job and call it good.

This is a trail rig, and won't be used in the winter where road salt is an issue.

I'm not interested in Fluid Film, Woolwax, etc coatings. I hate working around them, and I do all my own service work.

I have applied but yet to test the Eastwood stuff... seems to get pretty hard which I wanted. I wonder if some epoxy coating would be better. I did also the Eastwood in frame spray stuff but I think I will still end up spraying the cosmoline stuff on too since it is supposed to not be oily in the end and be another layer of protection.

I also have put on kbs coatings stuff on frame's and it seems to be very hard also.

I no longer live with lots of salt so I can't really test any of them any more.

I've had very good luck with POR 15. I like the fact that it doesn't need a top coat and makes a very good base coat. I have left it alone and painted over it. It doesn't chip easy and if I had to guess, its been on my M-151 trailer for close to 20 years. I don't however live in the rust belt but its seen a bit of salt water.

Was going to just say don't drive it in the winter but I see that is already in the plans. If you're not going to drive it in the salt, worrying about rust probably isn't necessary.

Really good point, but I want this 80 to last a very long time and want to try to do what I can to prevent rust from winning.
