The 60 has been boggling my mind. New radiator, 13lb cap, waterpump, and thermostat (190*) installed and it still runs hot. I have mechanical gauges hooked to it and going down the road yesterday I saw temps around 210. It's only 20* outside. I have read countless posts on burping and tried it. The only thing that happens is I wind up losing lots of coolant out the top of the radiator where the cap goes. I do have the woooshing sound through the heater core when I have the heat on at initial start up and sometimes lasts while going down the road. I know that there is air in there, sounds like a lot. Maybe I didn't let it run long enough when burping it. I think I will try the long funnel w/ duct tape trick. Any other tips or tricks are welcome. Mike

does the gauge go up and down when driving? if so then you for sure have an air bubble in there which is hotter than the coolant. I installed a Tee connector from a-zone just after the heater valve which is the very top of the system. After intalling that there was no need to do the burping.

They can fail after a few years so get two of them and put it in your pack or try to find a better design.

I tried the prestone/peak flush system T a while ago and didn't like how the cap stripped out the day I installed it. I didn't tighten it with gorilla force just finger tightened and it clicked and would never really seal up so that's in the garbage and a new line is in. I know a lot of guys run em but I don't like em. Burped it this morning on a real good incline got some air out. Just got home from work now and it's still running warm.....:bang: On the way home I watched the mechanical gauge get to 190* I know the Tstat opens the temp will go down a little below 190* with coolant ciculating then it'll go to 210 at idle, start driving it goes down to 197* to 200* sometimes 204* and at shut down I can watch the gauge go to 220*. It's a little frustrating. Mike

Do a compression check just to be safe...but these things can be a bitch to burp. Are you sure the heater core is ok?

Is true. When it comes to burping the cooling system or bleeding the power steering these beasts can be a pain. Mine was running hot and one day, after I installed one of those tees, the overheating was gone.

Compression is great across all six. I had the head off b/c of a blown HG between 5 and 6. There's maybe 10k miles on the head that was magnufluxed, resurfaced and a valve job done. All done last year. I only put the new waterpump and Tstat in it b/c it needed a new radiator and figured since I had it all apart now's the time. Heater core is in good shape. Only 136k on the truck and motor.

What head gasket did you use? Did you re-torque the head bolts after 500 miles or so?

Head gasket kit came from Cruiser Dan along with the waterpump and Tstat. All OEM parts, learned this a long time ago. All head bolts retorqued. No shortcuts taken.

Cruiser88--When I burp it I have it on an incline, truck is running, radiator cap is off and the overflow reservoir is at the full mark. The truck reaches 190*, Tstat opens and I continue to let the truck run while looking for bubbles. I even slowly sart pinching the upper radiator hose trying to work some air out but the only thing that happens is coolant keeps slowly spilling out from the radiator caps opening and starts getting everywhere. Should I keep it running for a while trying to get the air out? Should it really be this hard to burp? Thanks for all your help so far. Mike

Try keeping your cap on for right now.

Tell you a quick story and you may want to try it I don't know. I was fighting with my 62 to burp and almost gave up when I thought of the drain cock on of the bottom of the rad. I let it get good and hot the started cracking it open....about 15 minutes or so it seemed to help so I kept it up. In theory that should not work

I am not convinced that you don't have a leak somewhere. It may be sooooo small that you do not notice. Check them heater hoses real well including the ones under the rig for the rear heat.

If you hear the air....you have something going on.

Have you tested the thermostat outside the vehicle? I took mine out put it in a pan with water, crank the kitchen stove in high, took my wife meat thermometer and found out that the brand new thermostat was bad. At 190 degrees it did not fully opened.:hhmm:

naa don't believe its that cause he hears the air in the system like I do. Here is the thing ....my four runner's heater core is leaking.....but it never overheats even with all the air in the system. I suppose every rig is different?

I replaced all heater hoses when the head was off even the PITA one back at the firewall. The rear heater hoses I didn't replace but will check them tomorrow. I find it odd that the petcock worked as a bleeder for you.

I don't know but replacing my tested thermostat with a good one solved the problem, difference this time I tested it before installing it.

Very odd...It should not. But then again I was replacing the rad..

The new Tstat was tested and passed before I installed it and I even tested the old one when I yanked it and there is nothing wrong with it so it's on the shelf.
