Sure do.

Has everyone been to Font's point? It's about a 30-45 minute sidetrack that is well worth it if you've never been. If we've all seen it, we can skip it, but if not I think we should check it out.

I've never been either. Heard it's a great view and a "must do".

I don't think it will take too much time away from the day.

Fonts is a great place to go for sunset. We could hit it on our way to Coyote canyon coming back from Truckhaven. I've been there, but I'm game for it. It's a great view.

So is the Saturday meet gonna be at the XL or at the drop in to truckhaven? Or are we gonna meet some at the XL and then meet the rest at the drop in?

I think he's referring to the offer I made of meeting at the Calcite Mine trailhead. I said we could meet him as well as anyone else heading that direction there so they weren't forced to backtrack. You know, like I did when we all met at Kevin's for Baja, just to turn back around and drive right by my house:D.

I would still be happy to meet you guys at the gas station or even the corner of digiorgio(?) rd. Then we just head out to meet Scott about 15-20 minutes later at the Calcite Mine trailhead.

Does anyone have a address of the gas station or the name of the town that it is in so I can call 411 or something? I have never been it that part off the world and Im not yet that good with my GPS, I still do best with my navy system.

Meeting Saturday morning: When & Where

IMO it doesn't make sense to meet at the XL unless you guys coming back from Sheep need gas. Either way let's pick a definitive time and place to meet Saturday morning and sorry for confusing the issue Steve.

State Park

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. Five-hundred miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas and miles of hiking trails provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the California Desert. The park is named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish name borrego, or bighorn sheep. The park features washes, wildflowers, palm groves, cacti and sweeping vistas. Visitors may also have the chance to see roadrunner, golden eagles, kit foxes, mule deer and bighorn sheep as well as iguanas, chuckwallas and the red diamond rattlesnake. Listening devices for the hearing impaired are available in the visitor center.
Location - Directions
The Park is located on the eastern side of San Diego County, with portions extending east into Imperial County and north into Riverside County. It is about a two-hour drive from San Diego, Riverside, and Palm Springs.

Many visitors approach from the east or west via Highways S22 and 78. From the coast, these highways descend from the heights of the Peninsular range of mountains with spectacular views of the great bowl of the Colorado Desert. Highway S2 enters the park from the south off of Interstate 8.

Well, sorry fellas, it looks like I am not coming. Damn kids birthday parties. I will get together with you guys soon.

Sorry to hear that. It should be a pretty good run. There's still plenty of time before it gets tooooo hot:D

So how big/small is this run anyway? I've lost track. Sounding like one cobbler s/b ok. It'll easily feed 10-15. I'm thinking of trying blueberries if they aren't too expensive at the store. If they are, I'll go fallback to fresh apples.

Steve-

Are you guys still meeting at the XL on Sat. morning? Let me know please. I'll be driving right past it anyway but it would be good to know in case I'm there early.

Brent you can never have too much cobbler. A few months ago we had leftovers and I just through it on the fire and we had it for breakfast. I like the idea of having dessert twice. Is Stan bringing ice cream?? :p

I still want to meet at the XL at 9:30. It is an easier landmark for anyone that isn't familiar with the Truckhaven area or doesn't have a GPS.

I have been constantly updating the first post and have detailed how the meet up should be handled. We will wait until 9:45 or so and then head out towards Truckhaven to meet anyone that believes that meeting area to be more convenient.

The coordinates you have posted are not for the Calcite Mine trailhead. This is still a good drop in point and makes a for a nice little loop back up to the highway. From there we can go in any direction. The reason I was leaning towards the Calcite Mine trailhead is that while fairly easy to miss, is indicated by a park sign. Once again, no GPS necessary:) Sorry for the confusion.

The XL gas station has always been a good meeting place but I realize that nobody wants to drive further than necessary.

Unless I get a respose from all involved stating otherwise, we should stick to the two easy to find rendezvous points: XL Gas station 9:30 and Calcite Mine trailhead 10:00

So far we have six confirmed camper's. I think one should be OK as well. If anyone else is camping that isn't indicated as such on the first post, speak up. Otherwise you just might miss out on some of Brent's world famous cobbler:)

Umm: You're still making one too, aren't you Scott?:D

Damn...just found out tonight that my 1yr old has a double ear infection. Doc said to expect diarrhea for the first couple of days of the antibiotics so that would not be a fun diaper change on the trail.

Well, maybe i can finally go on a run with you guys in April sometime since I am leaving on vacation next week and will be gone for the rest of the month. My sliders should also be done by then too.

Roger that Steve, thanks for the update. Brent's got cobbler duty.
