Final follow up to end the hijack...
Met with the Ortho today, (former head of Orthopedics Fellowship Sports Med at West Point, retired Colonel, I'd guess he saw a lot in his 24 years of service, I'm good with him working on my shoulder) used the term "looks like a bomb went off in there", nice. Yet, nothing I've not known for years, many old injuries have manifested into one nice need of a shoulder rebuild.
Bottom line, 2 ~50% partial tears (supraspinatus, subscapularis) and subluxed long head biceps tendon complete tear along with other "game day decisions" related to the labrum, needing arthro & open surgery, more than likely. As I like to strive for, if I do something, I like to do it well.
Post surgery, 4-6 weeks in a shoulder immobilizer, up to 3 months in/out of it, 6 month goal = 80% strength. Positive prognosis, no reason to not heal to 100% as long as I do the work, or, the truth is, not do anything in those first weeks.
The MD was surprised how stable my shoulder is now, its because I've tried rehab for the past 6 weeks with my UNC Student Athletic Trainers I have assigned to me. Yet, it still keeps me up at night and I know that I could wait and screw it up throwing 10g gatorade coolers around.
Moral of the story...end result of decades old damage, neglected causing a long term breakdown. Glad thus far, not arthritic. To the younglings...take care of your shoulder sooner than later, as demonstrated by my example. In my case, its about the complications created by the subscapularis rehab, can't extend elbow from side (abduction) for 8 weeks, no tension on biceps tendon for 6 weeks. And, the artwork on the left shoulder will become compromised...
