I'm there!

2013 is supposed to be a big year! When I was in cali Georg (Vally Hybrids) was telling me that 2013 is the yr to go! I would love to go, this will be my graduation gift to my self!

I've talked with a friend of mine at work, who has a family member that transports vehicles (CDL with a 7 vehicle trailer). I'm going to start the discussion of how much it would cost, and if he'd like to ride with us.

I wouldn't mind a cross country drive and see the scenery, but time, breakage, cost will all play a factor...

I think thats the best idea. However, I might suggest driving a secondary vehicle across the country, piling as many as reasonable into somebody's hundy or other "commuter" car to save on airfare, rental car to get from Reno/Sacramento to where ever the rigs wind up and other associated travel costs.

The biggest issue when Greg and I were discussing this previously, and discussions I had with transporters was where the vehicles would be dropped off in CA. They all needed to have someone to sign for them. When Greg talked with the dealership in Reno, they wouldn't take that responsibility.

I do have contacts our there and its possible to find a spot. With Adam's family in Sac, he might have a source to receive the vehicles being transported.

In any event, let the discussion begin...

I've made trip from nc to Sacramento Cali (about 1.5 hrs from Tahoe area) a few times. You can make it to from nc to ca in 2.5 days with non stop driving. SUCKS! 3.5 days with stoping at night and driving 10 - 14 hrs a day. Not too bad. So there is 6 days of driving min!

Having the vehicles trucked out woould be great! We could save time by flying. We could fly into Sacramento or Reno. Southwest has flights from Raleigh. A trip from RDU to Sac is about $500 to $600 maybe cheaper.

Thats my .02

I have family in Sacramento I can get someone to sign for em and watch em til we show. I also should be able to get us a car maybe 2 to use!

I'm in on this trip and I'd be driving the f250 with cruiser in tow. I hate flying and I have family I'd like to visit in the area. This way I could carry a load of spare parts and tools.
And perhaps my grill.

Ideally this would be a personal contract, between us and this guy, and no middle man deals through a company. Not sure how it would work as far as insurance or bonding, but it may be beneficial to look into a one time insurance rider for the trip, just in case.

Talking with my friend/coworker of 10 years, his cousin is laid back and would probably work a deal where he could ride the trails with us and hangout...

Let me chat one on one with him and I'll find out some details, but I thought this might be a viable option to help us make this a reality.

The other option is, send someone to CDL school for ~$1000, rent our own truck and trailer (about $3000) , and do it ourselves! :D This is of course someone in the club doesn't already have one...

Its typically the 3rd weekend in June. In '11, the snow pack was so heavy, they moved it to the 3rd weekend in July...

Do we have any idea what the dates might be for 2013? wouuld like to put in for vacation now so the govt dont screw me.

Typically although it could change due to trail conditions...
