75* to day melt snow melt!!!!!

I was up on the Rubicon today with Alvarorb. There is still a bit of snow at the lower evevations and deep water on the Wentworth Springs side of the trail. The trail itself is in good shape, but I have heard rumors that no one has come through this year from the Tahoe side.

Anyway, big fun and I'm stoked for Rubithon. I got to use my "new" 8274, it worked like a champ to free an 80 series.

Andy
Are you guys going through backwards this year( or are you going to try?)

Dave-No time to go backwards. I'll be somewhere in the area Tuesday night and head in with the run on Wednesday. The only issue will be after Cadillac. The trail itself is clear. I'm worried the snow will still be deep on the Tahoe side, and if the snow is gone, the water will be deep like last year.

I'm planning on going in early backwards again. I expect it will be fun again.

Heading to the trail last year...

The trail was in very good shape. The guys from FOTR did an amazing job at the Gatekeeper. Yes, the bigger obstacles are gone, but it's no cake walk either.

This picture was taken right before we descended into the granite bowl.

I thought the entire Gatekeeper complex (ie including the alligator pit) is now a non-factor. The big rock in the center was blasted, and that series of huge boulders 200 yards later is just gone. That part of the Rubicon will not be the same, so I hope it was for the best. I think anyone with a nearly stock anything can now easily access the Granite Bowl area, especially on the upper line we came down yesterday.

The weird thing was that hardly anyone else was on the trail. Normally you see other groups, but yesterday on one of the finest days for 4 wheeling ever, no one was there. It really was strange. I thought the overflow might be running at Loon (which would block the Loon access) but when we got there it was dry.

Maybe all the rules and enforcement are doing what "they" want it to.....keeping the number of users down. Still it is early in a late melt summer, we'll have to see how the whole season goes to see what has truely changed.

Rubithon, 16 days and counting,

Jim,

We'll be heading in backwards early too. I think going Monday from Tahoe side. A mini and a 40 or 2 with Cascade Cruisers stickers. Hopefully see you somewhere on the trail!

Excellent ! You guys should be well accustomed to the conditons (trees and snow). ;)

Look for a few Rubicon ready Cruisers having breakfast in Tahoe City. I'll be at the in town campground Sunday night. Hopefully, renewing old friendships at the Blue Agave bar/resturant Sunday night.

I'll watch for you on the trail. (Note: CB day of the week)

Cheers,

JIM, Finally get to see you on the trail again my friend. I'll probably be in the area Sunday/Monday getting ready for the Wednesday Run. We'll have to have a drink or 2.

Excellent idea Sam!

I'm stoked you're going to be there. You are going to love it. It's going to change the whole way you look at wheeling.

Plus, we'll get some good entertainment watching RogersFJ401969 :flipoff2: Ian, bring gloves, the armstrong steering is a bitch.

13 days im running around like a kid in a candy store
