Spencer and Dion having some fun

Thanks Tony, And Bummer Don, I know how you feel I have had this one knife in my pocket for 15 years also. I have lost it twice, but it always finds its way home, maybe yours will do the same.

I'd like to hear about Roger's (late night?) exit!

Did he leave Fri night? He was gone sat when we went through but I thought maybe he started before I was out of bed.:D

Roger & I made plans to leave Sat morning and we picked up Don in a propane mini from the wagon run so we headed out around 9 or before on Sat morn.
Well, we were at the gate to Stone cabin when we pulled over cause Roger was already winching due to a broken axle. We changed axle in 30 minutes and were moving. early into big sluice it was apparent Rogers detroit in front was eratic at best so Don and I & Roger busted ass and winched/worked hard to get Roger to top of big sluice, which was not to bad but alot of work. I almost rolled at top of big sluice and thank god Roger was there to calm and spot me out of a s***ty situation. Just before the intersection of old sluice and slabs Roger busts all steering studs on knuckle and it is in a bad spot, can you say trail plug. Poor Roger tried his damdest to winch out of way but in the end the only option to avoid more damage and deal was to cause a trail plug and change knuckle. We did and everybody was real nice. At one point it was counted at over 40 trucks one one side or other that were stop and wait for us, thank you to everyone. I got impatient and prolly was a little short with Roger but we did get to see some friends while broke and Roger is very forgiving so it all worked out. Then as we were moving truck out of way so traffic could start we found a bad lockout so Roger pulled up out of ay and changed that, then we went home. As we reached the bowl my 40 started not running like it did at Pilsbury a few years ago. We pulled over with plans to tow it and when I fired it up to move a little it ran and we hauled ass to spillway. Thanks for not getting mad at me Roger when I acted like a jerk. Rubithon was stellar and the trail was extremly hard if you had a mild or even built rig.

Don't feel too bad Roger. That happen to me, or should we say Spencer last year going down Big Sluice.
On my way out this time, I keep feeling my truck wanting to tip over going up the slabs. Little did I see after the top of Big Sluice I broke the main front right leafspring. So I pulled over on a flat spot part way up the slabs and saw the broken leafspring, through a rachet strap on it and limped to the top where James had some rope. Wrapped the rope around the leafspring and drove the rest of the way out.

So what time did Roger, John, rest of PMC rigs get out to Loon. When we got to Tahoe I as thinking maybe we should have gone out the other way....now I'm just glad we were able to drive em home.

How about a damage list from everyone for the newsletter.

, Front Diff Drain Plug, rotor (dist cap loose), repaired loose tranny bolts, repaired loose engine mount (rear DS), 6 studs when the wheel came off exiting (failure to tighten lugs after diff replacement), strained elbow slipping in 90 wt during stud repair.

Don-"Red"...flexed frame enough over snow berm to stretch steering shaft out of tulip joint in dash. steering was "square " rest of drive home. Re-dents on all four corners and both sides.

Courtney-"ol' Blue"- Torn sidewall of front tire, broke off both cb/uhf antennaes, dented all four corners and both sides

I'm feeling lucky!
Mike Kulzer saved our butt gettin out. Don't think he had any problems at all.

I am glad you have a great attitude. You should be good to go for several years. I am glad you did not have to deal with the stress of cooking breakfast and dinner for everyone on top of this.

Roger, John and I left the Springs at 8am and got to Loon at 6pm....a fun filled day of wheeling, trail repairs, and Roger and John picking at each other!

Don,
FYI the Hi Steer you won is for a Mini Truck or 4 runner from All Pro. Not sure if it will work on FJ40.

Dave

I learned during raffle that everything works with mini knuckles (which are on Blue) except the tie rod and drag link. contacted all-pro yesterday and oked to ship TR/DL today and they will replace with the same for a 40...I pay shipping...no problem:D
BEEFY BEEFY parts.

However they only work on a SO 40 wich will need to be done in the next year. So far I have the high steer kit and 60 springs collected. Be interesting to see if an old retired guy can get it done in a year...all about priorities.

Also wondering if it's all worth the SO and bigger tires with all the pinion breakage I've seen in the last few years.

Ross, all I can say is OH MY!

I think I should upgrade AAA

Yeah you should, the Tow from Dixon to Santa Rosa was $330.00, and the guy knocked off 10 miles, that would have been another $50.00.

Don,
That is great to hear. Make sure to thank them again for donating to the raffle.

Well Andy had a little issue when we were going up big sluice at VW rock leaving. His newer Trail gear rear axle housing came apart. The housing end that holds the axle and backing plate in came off and the axle just about fell out. Trail gear did a horable job making this ends, very sloppy machine work caused the weld to brake and off it comes. Had to hang for a bit untill some came with a welder :frown:, I almost had him ready to make a log skid and drive out like that. I would have loved to see the Jeepers faces as he blazed down the bowl at 20 MPH on a log.

I had a good time seeing Andys face as he went flying down 1000 dollar hill backwards because we never hooked the breaks up after the axle. So he tried again and made it up.

Additional listing for damage count. Eric in the white mini, first time on the trail: Broken rear spring (can't believe it made it to loon), diff plug (Michael actually found it and it was reinstalled) and one sore face from a perma grin all weekend. Drove it home!

James: New and improved dents every panel and every blinker missing. (I got off way lucky)

Everybodies mechanical carnage count really shows the dificulty of the trail this year, but what makes the event is the smiles and great attitudes I encountered. I didn't hear one complaint, not even Woody who definately had more than enough hardship.

Michael when I unpacked I found your missing pistola safe and sound. Contact me to retrieve.

What a blast!
