RPM at 70mph

Hello, just wondering how many rpm should be displayed with the 200 series at 70mph with stock vehicle on a dry flat roadway with stock tires. My 2008 with wider tires(Mickey Thompson 305/60/18) at 70 mph is close to 4000 rpm. Just curious. Thanks

Sounds like you were not in top gear.
Probably not even 5th (if you are a 6 speed)
Should be way lower than that.
Were you in S mode (manual shifting) by chance?

If you accidentally shoved your shifter leftward (from D to S) it defaults to an upper gear limit of 4th.

I'm revving at around 1600 - 1700 cruising at 70mph. 2008 LC stock right now. at 80mph I'm revving at 2000. Sounds like you were sitting in 3rd gear revving that hard...

The funny thing is the engine doesn't sound like it's revving hard. The tach is showing 4k rpm at 70mph. It's a new
vehicle for me. Toyota told me I have tranny problems. I have more research to do. I had the shift lever in "D" not "S". Thanks

Try manually shifting upward to 6th gear in S...and make sure you're not accelerating or under load on an incline.

If you can't do that, then like they're telling ya... :(

How many miles on it? I know it’s new to you, but does the transmission act normal other than high RPMs on the freeway? Like does it feel as though it’s slipping?

ok, I'll try that later today. Thanks

Even if you can...it's still likely screwed up. Just suggesting you try it with S to see if it can be coaxed into 6th...or perhaps it is somehow behaving in D like it's in S. I dunno.... Just thinkin... This is where electronic everything sometimes is frustrating. Too many possible causes. Tough to escape though unless an ancient vehicle.

170k miles, no slipping, no weird no sounds, even Toyota told me it seemed like the tranny was fine except for the codes it was throwing.
Ahh, the plot thickens. It tripped a DTC(s)? What code(s) and did you look it up?

It was never in 4 low. some of the codes were: C0205, B1421,B1423,B1424,B1206,B2281,B2321 and B1866
They told me I needed new air pumps and if that's the case I'm looking at the Hewitt bypass as a possibility.
The speed sensors were ok.
That's about all I know at the moment. I'm going back in for service work this coming Saturday

I assumed he was joking Bout the 4Lo possibility...
:meh:

I'm sure he was kidding. But who knows what the previous owner did with this rig? I'll take it out in a few hours and try shifting into "S" and see if I get gears 5 and 6. I'll keep you updated. Has anyone tried the Hewitt air pump bypass? I'm thinking of doing that instead of replacing the air pumps for emissions.

I just hooked up a FIXD reader to the vehicle and it gave the codes B1866, P2714, and P0761. It looks like they have to do
with the transmission and shifting and the possibility of going into "limp mode". The reader shows the codes but they are not showing on my dash.

Just in case no one said this... don’t drive around at 4K at all. The engine damage will be worse than the transmission’s. Get it towed somewhere and fixed.

What color is your transmission fluid ?
