I don't know 80 series tech but we havent got that on the diesel 60's.

OK, since I now know what the part is, I will probably just replace it. If its anything like the Merc one, a simple crows-foot wrench would do the trick right? My Merc one has leaked every time I opened it up to prime the fuel pump, some people say i shouldn't, but I have it on good advice that it states in the Merc dealer training that it will leak when open and pumping, but not after screwing it in tight. When its screwed down tight, it does not leak diesel at all.

My Merc's been running like that for about 250k without issue. But...if its a known Cruiser issue, I might as well change it eh. :D

I have had two of these fail on me and introduce air in the Cruisers. Start here. You can even prove that you have air in your lines by starting your Cruiser and cracking an injector, watch for the bubbles. If you have air, replace the primer. I would replace it either way...but I already said that. :)

Yes you did sir, thank you for taking the trouble to remind this old man :-)

It should be the same with the LC primer pump as well. There should be no air leakage when the plunger is screwed in.

What model LC?

What engine?

Is the return from the injectors looped back to the fuel feed pump or does it return to the tank?

The Cruiser is an HJ60 with stock NA 2H engine. Truth be told, I don't know if the return is looped back to tank or feed pump. Heck I didn't know that the 2H even employed an extra feed pump, unless you're referring to lift pump, or what I think most of us here call a primer pump.

I will take a closer look at things after work today. Thanks.

We don't have a return line to the tank on the 2H's, they return to the feed pump.

Aha...so that could probably create a huge vacuum then in the tank. I know my vents are all corroded away, I just wonder if that has ever been an issue with you Kim? Maybe this is another one where I will just tear out all the old corroded lines and replace with a plastic fuel filter.

What are your thoughts on this?

If you have vacuum in the tank I would suspect your filler cap as being the culprit. And I don't think this is your issue really. All my old lines were corroded but those aren't vents to the air or from the air, they are for fuel expansion and condensation. If they were broken, I would suspect your tank couldn't hold vacuum.

You've convinced me! I'm dropping by the usual Merc parts supplier and see if he has those parts handy and do some quick wrenching after work today to see if that fixes the issue.

Ok, picked up the part from my Merc supplier and he assured me that if it didn't fit I could bring it right back. Thing is, just didn't have time to do anything but drive it back and only just got home. So install will probably be tomorrow.

Here's the thing though, in the short drive from Port Moody to Pitt Meadows, the car drove flawlessly. However on getting home, I tried to open the fuel cap and it took two hands to do it, with a loud sucking sound when I finally got it open.

I'm going to take it to work tomorrow (long drive) and see what happens. Things are just too wet and cold to crawl under there, but I'm sure there must be a valve somewhere to relieve vacuum in the tank. Even if it's not the problem...

Not so warm without the stove these days John. :)

Funny thing, I'm on my way home from work today, minutes from home and my wife calls, says her Cruiser quit near home, about 2 minutes in front of me.

Can you believe it, air in the system!

My/her issue turned out to be the return rubber line leaking behind the injector pump. This return has been mentioned here. It runs from #1 injector behind the injector pump to a hard line. Tough to get at!

Fun, Fun, Fun.

Hahaha yes. My buddy's shop actually is nice and warm too. In fact, he'd already jacked it up for me and on 4 jackstands already. Just that I can't find the time to do the work. My buddy told me that he thinks the tank's leaking as well. I have not found any leaks on the ground, but I think I know what he's talking about...there's an area around the tank, near the wheelwell that's always wet and oily. I'm pretty sure there's diesel seeping out from there. Haven't seen a puddle yet, but if its seeping out...oh well.

Hope it lasts until Spring before I need to drop the tank. If I can find the time, I'd drop it as soon as the tank's empty and see what's up with it. Geez, the rust...

Geez, what luck! And of course, as luck would have it, its always the significant other driving, which just messes things up a tad more. Then again, we get to play Knights in Shining Armour once in a while, eh. ;)

You should've seen the looks on my wife's and daughter's faces when I showed up, popped the hood, climbed onto the front bumper and reached into the engine to "do something". Moments later, the car starts. Aaaahh, that my hero look never gets old.

It just occurred to me, are you running veggie oil?

No, but I hope to be making my own biodiesel soon! Why?

You know, I drove my cruiser to work today with nary a hiccup. As soon as I got to work, I tried opening the cap again and yes, the vacuum was pretty loud.

Why? Because I am, about 15 percent and my fuel was gelled this morning. A fun start to the day.

I think I will stop giving advise. :D

Oh...it can do that? So what do you do? Diesel 911? Space heater? Geez, don't stop giving advice man, I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with it :D

Yep pretty nippy this morning....about -8 in my area I think. You're further east so slightly colder? Strange thing though, absolutely no frost to scrape at all...and I'm still in shorts :-)

Are you sure about that? I have a photo right here in a manual, of the 2H fuel tank, and it says it has fuel feed and return pipes.
