Ive always like the look of your rig.
You had posted it up when I was trying to figure out wether or not to go with 37 or 35 before I did my SOA!

Truly a great write up as well.
I find it interesting to hear about where folks started in this affliction.

Sounds like your are perfectly set up for the Alaska Cruiser Trek. Overlanding with 35s. I'm not going SOA but will have 35s and I'm setting up for overland travel. If you sag too much in the back with from the weight you could consider airbags. They actually aren't that expensive. You should probably have a limiting strap with the SOA so you don't rip the bags. Just passing along what I've read and heard. No personal experience with airbags yet.


Chad, I have considered going with airbags in the back. Since I'm so new to the overland travel idea, I'll see how the AAL's work with the weight, and if I still get major sag, then airbags will probably find their way on. Thanks for the tip on the limiting straps! That would suck to rip open a bag on the first big axle twisting obstacle.

Man, the Alaska Cruiser Trek would be sweet.:cool:

Thanks Chicago. I've followed your build from day one and enjoy all the cool stuff you continue to build for it. I wish I could say that I did most of the work like you can. I blame it on lackluster tools.

You're running an Aussie in the back right? How is it on road?

I tried for the Aussies, but they had a mass backorder at the time, and I couldnt wait around for it.
Ive got a Lockright in the rear, and on the road...I really dont notice it. It unloads on occasion, and wratchets when making tight turns...I just really dont even think about to be honest.

Nice lil units the lunch boxes are IMO!

How much bodylift do you have to fit that type of exhaust setup? And where did you order your snorkel from and how much? I'm in SoCal and looking at the snorkel a soon to be upgrade.

I'm actually not running a body lift at all. I know for a fact that 2.5" piping will fit through that location with no body lift.

As far as the snorkel, I got mine through 4wd Parts, 4x4 Parts, 4x4 Off-road Accessories, Jeep Accessories, Jeep Wrangler Accessories, Jeep Stuff, Jeep Parts And Accessories, Jeep Truck Accessories (located in Sterling, VA at the time) and I can't remember how much I paid becuase it was about 10 years ago. I've only been living in San Diego for the past 5 years, so I don't know much about local vendors other than the biggies like Man-a-Fre, SOR, and TLC 4x4. Hit up their websites and check their prices. You could always go with Kurt from Cruiseroutfitters. His prices are good, great custsomer service, and you avoid the CA sales tax.

Hmm...never thought of it that way, but yeah, they kinda do.

I have made some changes to my rig and I'll be sure to update this thread as I get the pictures taken and loaded onto my computer. Think expedition style.

Some more recent photos of my build.

Finally got the Slee bumper installed, along with the long AAL for the rear. I'm interested to see how long my rear spring pack lasts with the AAL before it starts to sag. Worst case scenario, I get some OME heavies and de-arch.

I was hoping for a little more height with the AAL. Even now it still sits a little low in the back as compared to the front. Next step is to load the Cruiser up like I would for a trip and see how much further it comes down.

I know I know. I still have my second set of wheels with 37's but I don't know if the extra drivetrain stress is worth it (when I look at how I am now using the Cruiser). With less emphasis put on hard-core type trails and more towards long distance, expedition type travel.........35's work better for me.

If I was slogging through the mud of Panama, you bet I'd be running the 37's!:D

actually most of those 37" really measure more like 36" but I said a matter of look not really thinking in a better off road performance ..

At the end you are the owner .. and I just can add, nice cruiser .. !
