Rotor and brake caliper torque specs (3 Viewers)

So my 2013 LC has about 82k mi on it and the rotors are warped and done at this point. I'll be doing a full rotor and brake pad job this week with OEM parts. I've tried searching but haven't found clear answers as there are different torque specs for 2008-2015 LC and 2016+ LCs. Does anyone have the torque spec numbers for both front and rear rotors along with front and rear caliper bolts for the early year LC's? I'll be sure to post pictures and hopefully post a tutorial as well.

There aren’t any fasteners to torque for the rotor itself, just the lugnuts which are 97.

Front caliper bolts on 08-15 are 73ft-lb
Rear caliper bracket to axle 70
Rear caliper pin/bolt to bracket 65

Note that adjusting the rear parking brake can be a little tricky. You are looking for 5-7 clicks from the handle when pulling with 45# of force. I use a fish scale for this.

@bloc not to try and make too many assumptions here, but I wonder if these torque specs are the same for 2016 and up? I have a 2018 LC and want to replace the rear brake pads.

I only have the 2008 FSM, which I found somewhere here on Mud. Any ideas are welcome! Thank you

Your 2016+ front caliper mounting bolts are larger and require more torque, 133ft-lb per my reading of the FSM. Other than that everything is the same.

@linuxgod may have some resources for more appropriate manuals, but I don’t want to promise things of him.

I didn’t take the calipers off the front when I replaced the brake pads, since you only need to take the pins out with the springs holding them in place.

Correct, your rear brakes are exactly the same as the earlier trucks. Don’t forget to research dealing with the parking brake adjusting dial.. it can give you trouble without learning the tricks.

If you swap front rotors you’ll need to remove the calipers and those 133ft-lb bolts. If your rear rotors are staying in place you won’t need to loosen the rear caliper bracket bolts, only the pins.

For 2016+ rear caliper, if I'm reading the FSM correctly, the caliper bracket bolt should be 114 ft-lb. The slide pin is 65. The part number of rear bracket bolt for pre-2016 and 2016+ are different. If I did my research correctly, pre-2016 the part number is 90119A0277, for 2016+ it's 9011914169.

Likewise, from the manual I have it says for 2016-2021 MY (08/2015 - ): "Rear disc brake cylinder X Rear disc brake cylinder mounting: 65 FT*Lbf" (I'm assuming these are the slide pins), "Rear disc brake cylinder mounting bolt: 114 FT*Lbf". Front disc brake caliper bolt: 133 FT*Lbf". Wheel lugs: 97 FT*Lbf.

Odd. The bolt is the same part number as the 08-15 rigs. Caliper bracket is different though.

Of note, the front caliper bolts and rear bracket bolts are listed in TIS as non reusable so I ordered new ones. The videos I have seen on YT all reuse, but I ordered new ones along with all the clips and rubber bushings as those are non reusable as well just to follow procedure. The fresh bolts have a slight amount of what I think is loctite pre-applied. For the front brakes, it helps to turn the steering to give your torque wrench/breaker bar room to work. If wheels are straight the back of the fender will be in the way. Also I made the mistake of putting in the front pads reversed on the first side I did, had to go back and swap. Just take some pictures to note orientation adn take your time.

I also read in the manual that the bolts are one-use only. As you said, every YT video re-used the bolts. I went to my local dealer parts desk to order the bolts and the parts guy looked at me like I was asking for bars of gold-pressed Latinum. He told me that they don't carry hardware and the shop just re-uses the bolts. I asked if I could order them and he looked at his computer screen for a couple of minutes and told me that no one in CA had them. On my own research, I found that Longo listed them on their website as in stock but I didn't feel like making the drive. I just replaced the pads so I didn't have to pull the bolts. The rotors were still in good shape but now, I think they are beginning to warp. Great.

Also they just don't feel like loctite when loosening the bolts the first time after final torque.

I suspect toyota just considers it a high-importance fastener and therefore it gets replaced.

I recently did my 2021 LC brakes and cross-threaded a bolt on the caliper on the drivers side ruining the caliper in the process. Calipers were in stock at the local Toyota parts warehouse but no bolts. The bolts took 5 days to arrive at the dealer via Fed Ex. I thought it was odd they would be in such short supply if they are allegedly one-time use! They should sell the bolts with the caliper but for some reason they do not.

Attaching part numbers for the bolts and caliper banjo bolt washer in the event someone finds the information useful.

Not to clutter this thread but can someone check my math? I just inspected my rear pads and am confused about a torque spec. When you guys say "slide pins" you mean the bolts that connect the caliper to the rotor?

Edit: Nvm. Think I answered my own question (I was wrong). Feel free to correct me either way.
