The plan is to do Box Canyon from south to north starting in Florence and depending one what our capabilities are as a group, we will either exit to 79 via the Cottonwood - Telegraph route or exit to the 60 via Mineral Mountain Rd. I've never done these trails so I'm hoping someone who has decides to join us. Hint, hint.

Current Intinerary (Open to suggestions)
  • 8:30am - Air down and drivers meeting. be fueled up and have any snacks/lunch ready to go. - We will meet up at the Price Rd Staging area here : Price Road - Box Canyon OHV Staging Area · Arizona 85132 - https://maps.app.goo.gl/azYAFE9NkqdhCWC8A
  • 9:00am - Hit the trail looking at about 6 hours back to pavement with a lunch stop and leisurely pace based on what I'm seeing.
  • 12:00ish - Open to suggestions for a good spot to grab lunch.
  • If making good time and folks are interested we may explore around the area up around the Stage Stop. Looks like a network of side trails.
  • 3pm - 4pm back on pavement. If some folks want to hang out and explore and others want to get back faster, there are easy options for getting out safely.

Yeah. Sorry I’m traveling for work in South America and just haven’t had time to fully update the thread with details, but yes. This date is locked in for Box canyon.

I’m in.
I drove it last month with a friend. It was dry then.

@TheGrrrrr if you do end up going on a pre-run, I'd like to join.

Going to miss the ROTM weekend. I'm free if you pre-run this Sat.

I may try to do a pre-run this Saturday.
AArrrrgg you go on a day I cant.......:bang: Next weekend is open for me tho if this changes

We ran it last month, south from I-60 thru the Canyon.
I have a Gaia track if you wan it. There are several intersecting trails around Mineral Mtn.
BTW Are you using GMRS radios or HAM ?

That GPS track would be great. For comms, we'll use whatever most of the people have. HAM tends to avoid the SxS radio traffic, so thats the preference, but not everybody has HAM.

If you have Gaia I can text / email it to you.
Can do either. Our local group is using the GMRS privacy channels to avoid outside chatter.

I have Gaia. You can send it to my email matthew.geer at gmail

I need to look into the privacy codes for GMRS. My understanding is that it keeps you from hearing other people but doesn't keep them from hearing your chatter?

I’ll try to email my track it to ya.
You are correct. Everyone needs to have the privacy code programed in.
Its a little work to help folks get them in. I can send the instructions just in case you want to some time.

This is correct. The privacy codes will filter out the messages from people not using our codes. But, anyone listening on the standard channel without a privacy code will hear us. Example: our group is on channel 16 with DCS code 32. Our group will only hear radios with that setting. Anyone on channel 16 within range will hear our communications, but we will not hear them.
