Roof Removal

G'day folks got me a 1985 Fj73,

Any one have a manual or a picture of where all those little bolts are hiding so i can remove my roof and lay down my windsheild ? need to get at a spot of rust to fix it for a roadworthy and cant quite reach

Why would it ruin the rig?

But I think all the OP wants is to have it off for the time being to be able to repair some rustspots.

yeah wanted roof off for some repairs to the front window frame, hard to get one at this time so will fix and get another at lesuire

I have heard that the roof can leak after you remove it. I suppose some sikaflex could solve the problem.

Hey dropbear, could you post picks of the windscreen frame removal? I have a rusty one too. I hope there are no nasty surprises when I take it out. Like heaps of rust behind the fame.

What sort of frame are you going to put in OEM or fibreglass? There is fibreglass ones on ebay for 400 bucks. I saw original ones for 800 bucks but haven't priced ones from the wreckers yet.

If the frame is in decent condition after the repair (or your new is all metall as well -fibreglass frames exist -) you could soak it in anti-rust.
What I did, when I got my rig, was to remove every bolt in the frame I could find.
I bought a rattlecan Valvoline 'pentrating rust preventive'. With this can you also get a long thin hose that has a nozzle. Through the boltholes I inserted the nozzle and quirted the stuff in every direction I could reach.
Now, 12 years later, there is no sign of rust at all.

I dont think you will get one from the wreckers,they are a scarce commodity.
4WD Parts in Welshpool will do them for $650 in a Toyota box. I got one last month
