guys,

I just bought a 97 TLC that does not have the factory roof rack or rear air spoiler.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to get one and what type?

Not looking for the safari style but a nice unit.

pleaseeeee :)

I'll give you my factory rack for free but it would be a real shame to drill holes in the roof- most people try to do the opposite.

I just brought roof racks from South America. I've haven't had time to make a web site yet. James was very kind to put them on his web site:

Mudrak in Sonoma is selling them. His phone number is: (707) 996-5272.

Regards

Alvaro

Consider yourself lucky since you do not have the factory roof rack or rear spoiler, no roof rack holes to deal with. You don't need the factory rack and spoiler but you can fabricate your own rack if you have the skills and tools. Or you can buy an aftermarket one like the ARB roof rack.

ok.. I just read the previous posts on this..... What would you guys recommend then? Not looking for an expedition style rack....

I've got a Thule that does everything I need from hardware store to bikes to cargo box. If you're seriously offroading this would be inadequate, but fine for daily life and occasional off-roading. My 40th had the rack and spoiler, I much prefer the smooth top with a useful rack.

Kevin,

The racks for the 60 series and 80 series are $1000.
Originally I though about selling them from home. But I have not the time nor the infrastructure to do so. On the other hand Gary has a shop, can easily ship anywhere and if someone needs installation help, he can do that too.

Right now, I'm working on the installation instructions as well.

Regards

Alvaro

Nice rack! :D
The lights I mentioned to Sam a while back are still on ebay for another couple days...

search for lightforce on there and you'll find them.

If you go Thule and want a low-profile rack get the feet and bars made for a 240 Volvo. That's what I have and it fits perfect. Just about an inch of bar on either side of the side supports and about 2" off the roof. The recommended rack extends farther and sits higher. This, in my opinion, breaks up the lines/flow of the 80; while the Volvo-sized rack just looks right. I'll take some pics tonight.

Got-em!!Thanks Doug

any volvo rack pics?

sorry about that; I'll take some tonight

Do you have a moon roof? If so you need a rack that sits back. I have the big Yakima and for use with a moon roof I love it.

Here's some photos in the garage. I usually have the front rack at the C-pillar. Just put one up for the pictures.

Thule racks are great! I'm a little biased(sponsored) but they're very durable, and somewhat insufficient for serious payloads, but if you're looking for a system for cargo, boats, bikes, skis, etc. the best option out there. Plus they have removable systems and bolt on systems. But for a basket, the M.O.A.B is the best I've seen out there.
