Lets say you had a Pelican 1650 or Long case that you had on your Roof Rack. You can lash it down during travel to keep it from bouncing around. But is there a secure way to lock it down to your roof rack so you can leave it overnight unattended without theft?

I'm researching a good functioning, reliable lock down system, but have it so you can still easily access the contents inside. Currently I can only think of a lashing system to keep it stable, and a cable lock to keep it from being stolen. Does anyone have a better system than this?

I basically looking for something with the ease and functionality of a Thule or Yakima box, but with the ruggedness of a Pelican strapped to your Roof Rack.

You could prob make come kind of hinged plate made from flatstock with a couple locks.

think clamshell

remember that this is only as secure as your roof rack. One could saw the bars in a couple seconds and walk away with the entire rack.

I think disguising the pelican will be a good idea. People tend to keep valuables and firearms in those...

It stinks that this is even an issue. I don't have any additional ideas concerning your direct question but found this site while trying to address my own concerns. http://www.tamperproof.com/

This has been a concern of ours as well especially as we approach a permanent move to Honduras. Security is a need we sadly can't get away from. :(
