Rolls hard when turning all the way....

I do have locking hubs, and are not locked in, it is not in 4wd, although it almost feels like it is when it binds. How would the birfield cause this problem ? If the problem is the tire to ground contact what is the fix?

I looked at my problem again, Here is what I found. It only rolls hard turning to the left and rolling forward, rolls fine in reverse. I can hear the brakes make a squeeking noise from the right side. Again I jacked the vehicle
up and the wheels turn fine, the right side does not seem to roll as freely, but not enough to give the braking feeling that I am getting. Anyone have any more suggestions??

maybe your hub ....

is not disengaging the axle. open them up and see if they are bound up some how.

also, are both tires/wheels having the same issue at the same time when you are jacked up and not touching tires to the ground?

one more thing ...

it only takes a few hours to open up the birfs and look at them. maybe that would be a good idea condsidering the issues. you could re lube and re seal on the way out for a nice service call to the front end and having eliminated all else, that may help you find the problem.

just asked a friend.... are all your lug nuts tight down flat to the brake drum? he suggests that the issue might be a off centered wheel base.

when jacked up, spinning the tire will show this "wobble" if that is it.

thats what is strange, when jacked up and turning wheel all the way to the left, the wheels still spin freely. And there is no wobble to the wheel when spinning. Aparently It only will bind up when the weight is on the wheels.

When I asked my mechanic about that he was unfamillar with a birfield.

Perhaps you would do better to find someone that is familiar with your 30-plus year old vehicle and have them take a look at what you are talking about.

:meh:

X2.... that reply is a sure sign that you need a different mechanic

Mark...

Toe-in/out possibly out of whack at full lock due to bent axle housing, tie rods, etc? Badly damaged/worn knuckle bearings can affect caster AND camber which changes toe-in while turning. Wheels are not scribing correct arcs and nose in (or out) until reversed.

Grossly misadjusted wheel bearing? Wheel/hub cants on spindle.

Loose spindle? Same effect as above.

Flexible brake line getting pinched or stretched?

All of the above (from every post)?

update....my mechanic found that I had brake problems. on the right side I had one brake cylinder that was seized up and one that was leaking. new brake cylinders and brake pads on both sides and i have no more problems. now I am going to replace the rear cylinders and pads. I was going to use CCOT rebuild kit, are these any good?
