Hello All, recently discovered rodent attack under the hood. So far, they managed to damage the engine cover (just the foam) and firewall insulator. I can probably get the new engine cover.. but wonder what to do with the firewall insulator? Is there patching available to help firewall insulator so it does not deteriorate further?

I have taken the following actions to fight off Rodents... sprayed engine hood cover/engine cover and firewall insulator with peppermint oil based solution, and placed two bags of Grandpa Gus's rodent repellent, is there anything else i can do to prevent this from happening in the future? Your inputs be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We live in a rural area of our city and get the same issues. (a neighbor has had his Jeep and Prius wiring harnesses chewed up - Thousands of dealer $$$ to fix)

I'll put a block of rat bait on top of the engine cover if I know my Tundra or LC is going to sit for more than a few days. Once you see it chewed on, you've likely got the culprit and your good for a while - another will be back eventually however.

We've tried the "humane" ideas, but they haven't worked and I'm just not willing to gamble on my wiring harness or engine bay to save a rodent. It's just to expensive to take a chance.

I'm sure others have great options they've come up with.

Thank you. I will look into all that as well. Really looking for inputs on how to repair/patch the firewall insulator as well.

I really don’t think the firewall insulation is a problem. It is likely more for sound damping than for thermal, and such a small portion of it being incomplete will be negligible in the big picture.

I’d consider removing the loose stuff, using a marker or something to make the remaining hole less noticeable then drive on, personally.

Do you have photo of the engine cover? Have you done any repairs? I have a couple small "nibbles" from previous owner but not harness or related wire damage, thank God!

Mice like to nest on the top of the valley plate. It's often hard to see them. Found a nest on mine when the shop fixed my valley plate leak. They'd chewed into the knock sensor wire but it hadn't broken.

A spare knock sensor harness isn’t expensive and only takes an hour or two to install, if needed on a trip.

I carry a spare knock sensor harness and the associated parts and tools for install since I park in remote places where mouse damage is possible.
