What is the backspacing on the stock rims? I'm looking at some new rims that may not clear the hub. What thickness spacer would I need to clear the hub and how would that work with a rim that has 15mm offset and is 8.5 wide? This is a 20 inch rim with 35's on it. Has anyone done the math on this before?I used a 1 inch spacer on my last set of stock rims to push it out just inside the wheel well and that is where I want to end up again so I can get full stuff with 35's but have a wider stance than stock due to the lift.

stock backspace is 4.5. I run 4.75 inch backspace with fj cruiser rims and a 35 1250 tire with a two inch lift. There is some rubbing in the back, but not bad. I know more about backspace than offset.

How wide of a rim are you running? To get a 35.4 in the 325/60/20 duratrac it says a rim width of 9-12 and these are 8.5 is that going to be a major problem. Backspace would seem to be 136mm ~ 5 3/8
The rim I'm looking at is the stock Tacoma X-SP

So would that mean I would need about 2 inch wheel spacer to cover up the offset and the aditional spacer I had last time around? And would that clear all the hub? I found out the rim I was looking at has a hub dia of 106 so can I space them out enough to work safely or not?

Yea I wouldn't care if the hubs stuck out the reason to cover the hub is so the wheel (hub dia) fits. Looks like I'm looking for another rim. It's so hard to stay OEM and stock looking when trying to upgrade.

I just deleted that post because I thought I read you wanted to use a wheel with the hole big enough for the hub.

Yeah, I don't like to vary too far from stock appearance to avoid the ghetto look. But, I have had my eyes on a set of bead locks that are solid rather than 5 spoke.o

OEM is 4.5" BS, zero offset.

Be careful, I've heard stories of rims not fitting. Either not clearing the hub properly, or not clearing the calipers. Have a local Mudder who has a set of rims that won't clear the hub.

If they clear the hub but not the caliper you can just run an appropriately sized wheel spacer. (Though I'm not a fan of wheel spacers.)

Rim's I'm running now have a 3.5" BS. Looks good with flares, would stick out if flareless.

What back spacing is required to run a 37" tire on a 17" rim. I don't want to use spacers if possible and am looking at the Hutchinson Rock Monster rims with a back spacing of 4.51" (114.3 mm)

I know that several members are running these rims with 35" tires but I have not seen any word on wether the tires are rubbing on the frame or other parts at full stuff.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

What lift are you running? Are you going to drop the bump stops? How wide of tire? How much of the body are you willing to cut away? Lots of variables go into that.

Sam,
I am running FJC rims (4.75" BS) 7.5" wide rim with the 37x13.50x17 Toyo MT's. I am using a 1" spacer to keep the tires off the frame rails and inner fender well and still be able to tuck inside the outter fender. Works pretty well. I probably had room for a 1.25" spacer. So, with your setup, consider tire width, rim width, and BS, and then use the right size spacer to adjust. HTH!

Here's a pic of my setup showing pretty good stuff of the rear 37" tire.

Thanks for the info Derrick. I may be reconsidering the 6" lift and going with a 4" now with some spring spacers and maybe a 1" body lift. I may need some wheel spacers too after studying your set up. Just not sure how thick since your rim is 1/2" narrower and has 1/4" more offset.

I guess I'll have to play with it when I get it all set up and see how much room I have (if any) between the body/tire and frame/tire.

I also have to decide on a 37" tire. I have been leaning towards the Toyo M/T but still considering the Cooper STTs, KM2's & GY MTRs.

Too many decisions!

*Hijack over*
