Currently I have a pair of Hella Rallye 3000FF halogen yellow lens foglights mounted to the tabs on my 80's bullbar.

Great and awesome, but they get in the way and being large lights they bounce around a bit when driving even though the mounts are tight. Just the way they are.

I would like to get a pair of Rigid Industries yellow-LED lights to replace them, but need some advice.

For foglight use, lights need to have a spread beam (not spot) and quite dispersed.

I've got the Hella's aimed down to the ground so the centre of the light pattern is about 15 degrees out left and right and hitting the road surface probably 20 m in front.

Given that foglights are not like driving lights and aren't meant to project long directed beams, spot type LED lights are going to be out? Yes? 8-)

So that then comes down to a choice between plain lens and 'diffused' lens yellow LED 'flood' style lights.

Has anyone used Rigid's 'Dually' 4 or 6 LED lights for foglights (genuine yellow lights - not just yellow surrounds)?

Preferably fog lights should be mounted as low as possible to avoid glare. Spots have a fair amount of dispersing the light at an angle. While it's hard to penetrate the fog, I would still like to have my lights go out in front as much as possible.

This pic shows the Hella's and you can see the angles I've got them set at to work as intended. They're fitted to tabs on the middle bar of the factory-original steel ARB bullbar, and a pair of Dually's would mount to the same tabs so their centre axis will be lower than the halogen lamps in the Hella's, and I can use all the same wiring I've got now.

I can't mount foglights under the bullbar as they're get destroyed next time I go driving through the scrub! They get the best protection possible mounted to the tabs on the bullbar.

Some members here managed to get some LED lights to replace the turn signal lamps inside the ARB bumper. But they would be around 6-7" in length.

I have a pair of rigid dually lights mounted in my headlights and aimed for distance. However, I am also running fxr projectors giving me a clean cutoff in the fog with hardly any extra light refraction off fog above the cut off. My rigids are hyperspots though, I wanted maximum range down road for early morning drives in the fall when I hunt. The projectors I have now cover an awesome amount of ground ahead of me and the hyperspots hit everything I need to see any further roughly 1/4 mile stretch ahead. Between the projectors with their high/low patterns and the rigids I haven't felt the need for a "flood style" fog.

On a seperate note about the rigids. There were some slight dissapointments.... for the price they could have used a more quality feeling switch. And the wiring harness that came with it is on the short side. Even for having my rigids in my actual headlights. I made a extension for the harness and am using a 1st gen scion xb horizontal foglight switch next to my rear heater switch on the dash. Unfortunately I have a 93 so there isn't any regular switch spots to the right of the steering wheel like the later ones.

A couple reference shots....

I have a set of Amber Rigid Dually LEDs mounted above my Rigid bar. I may swap them with my SuperBright LED spots, in the (slightly) lower position.

As far as how effective for fog, the jury is still out. I bought them for the fog and snow for our cabin, and I just installed the Dually LEDs a few weeks ago. Winter is a few months away.

Great replies thanks! Well it's winter here in Oz now and already I've needed the foglights, so the Hellas stay until I decide what to replace them with. Yellow LED Dually's are still the top of my preference tree. You can see from the pic of the front of my 80 where the Hella's are now. That's where LED foglights would go as the steel ARB original factory accessory bar has tabs in the right places.

I'm more or less decided on floods for the yellows, and if I was to fit a second set of white LED ones as additional driving lights, I'd for the spot version. I'm still undecided on whether the diffused lens versions (for the foglights) are any use as yellow LED floods are already going to be giving dispersed light due to their purpose as foglights.

Craig.
