Just purchased a 60x54 rhino pioneer platform along with the sx mounts and conversion kit from amazon...not a bad price and I can easily remove if I want as the SX mounts attach directly to the stock side rails. Anyone try these mounts yet and any feedback?

I do have one concern that I should've got the 49 inch wide platform vs. 54inch. Anyone have pics of 54 inch platform and feedback on the additional width.

Please keep us updated - I'm thinking about this same setup.

TIA

I don't have experience with the Rhino Rack setup, but I did just install Yakima Timberline Towers and JetStream 60" bars. The towers will also work with their locknload platform. Like you I didn't want to run a rack full time and be able to remove it when not needed.

Well, got everything in....Rhino pioneer rack at 60x54 (wish I'd gone 49 wide), sx100 vortex feet, and the Rhino Rack SXB conversion kit. In spite of the sxb kit claiming compatibility with the vortex feet, they are not. So now I have an email i to Rhino Rack asking for assistance on whether or not i can just switch crossbars, or I have to come up with another solution. Good thing is I got it all thru Amazon so free returns.

My question is.....anyone using the Rhino rack universal platform on their rigs? That might be the best solution for my purposes.

Did you look at whether or not the crossbar clamps would work on our stock cross bars or not?

So finally got around to installing the 60x54 Rhino Pioneer rack with Vortex SX100 mounts on the stock rails...

After alot of trial and error with part numbers and fitment, I got what was needed....the sx conversion kit, vortex sx100 feet, and of course the 60x54 rack.

I had to navigate 3 sets of instructions simultaneously to succeed but it worked out. And since I am the only man in the house with 4 little girls and a pregnant wife, and no buddies around at 7am to help, I had some AFG engineering to get the rack up on top without damaging anything . The most tedious part was lining up the vortex bars on the rails.

No driving or use impressions yet but will post back on noise, etc....I do have a Rhino wind deflector coming this week. We will see how that works out.

Looks like a great setup that takes advantage of the stock rack. I like it. Please let us know how you like it after some driving time. I'm most interested to hear about wind noise.

As much as I loved having a lightbar on the rack, it was just too noisy, and I want to avoid that issue if I go in this direction.

That looks great... Why did you think you should have gone with the narrower (49") pioneer platform? I transferred my pioneer from my totaled Excursion so I was stuck with the wider platform but I found the wider platform provides something to hold onto when loading it from the side steps or door wells and if you use a collapsable ladder to get up onto it, the extra width will protect your body paint.

I also found a couple great additions were some black seat track pieces and the Rhino Rack handles.

I originally thought I wanted a narrower platform to stay more in line with the width of the roof, but now that it is on, I like it and you're right, a place to hold on too is great. And actually, the stock rails now act as integrated hand rails.

I went a little further and removed my stock LX rails and incorporated the RR legs and foot beds to mount directly on the truck.

So I've maintained a lower profile, ~3" overall from the top of the rig to the top center of the rack, and it almost looks OEM to the untrained eye... Rhino Rack makes some serious kit. ;)

I may eventually go that route, or the backbone mount, but for now, I like the idea if removal if needed. I wasn't ready to tear out the stock parts yet

And the stock parts don't generally leak. :)
Rhino Rack parts plus marine grade sealant...

How much taller are the aero bars above the factory side rails? Looks like maybe an inch and a half?

thanks!
