I can't speak for the Yakima tent but I can tell you about mounting my Tepui. The tent doesn't actually touch the platform at all. Tepui use a rail mounted to the bottom of the tent. These rails house bolts which can slide through the length of the rail. Two bolts per mounting location which straddle the cross bars I highlighted in the picture below. The Tepui rails are the perfect width to fit between the Pioneer slats which run front to back.

One note, I did have to reposition the Tepui rails on the tent itself so the distance between the rails matched the distance between the RR slats. Looking at pictures of the Yakima it seems that they too use a rail with mounting feet. You'll want to make sure that the rails are the correct width apart or can be repositioned. You will also want to make sure the mounting feet are narrow enough (I can check on my truck later today if it will help).

Or you can look at a Tepui, I really do speak highly of their quality and customer service.

I noticed that the Rhino rack for the 100 series does not have backbone available... but it is available in AU? WTF? Can anyone think of a reason why?

The Backbone is now available in the US and Rhino has a few on the way (should be here soon, if not already). The website just hasn't been updated with all fitment info, that's why they're not available yet. Call Rhino Rack at (303) 706-9700 to be one of the first in the US with it. Ask for Tony.

Hmmmm the only problem I have is I get a discount through my work. So I would need it up on the website to move forward. Guess I will just have to be patient.

Updated! Here is the response I received from Rhino Rack: "We do not have a backbone system for the LX 470. As far as the 04 Land cruiser 100 series goes we will have those available. to purchase through our website tomorrow morning. " Don't all 100 series both the cruiser and LX have the same mounting points just some are covered by the weather stripping? Or am I crazy?

Further answer because I questioned it. "While that may be true, our engineering department has not designed a backbone system for the LX at this point and time. Modifying a backbone for the 100 series to the LX will void all safety measures and warranty for the Rhino Rack Product." Should I still send it I have time on my side because I get a discount through my work so I would have to wait anyway?

The shorter length rack will be quieter. The wider rack might make it easier to attach an awning. There are different mounting points on the roof.

Thats one of my 2000 Land Cruisers at rack outfitters in austin! Love that rack used it to haul drywall, osb you name it. debating getting shorter rack on my other LC currently.

Where do you find the backbone system for the LC100 on the website? Anybody run the 49" wide platform or does everyone prefer the extra width of the 54"?

It's not on their website yet from what the rep told me. You would have to call to get it.

84x56 for me! You can still vent the sunroof and open it up. Actually keeps the sunlight out of it! Much better in the summer! I've never had a problem walking on the racks. Makes it easier to rearrange if you get up on top! I ran a Pioneer Platform on both my 4runner and my Land Cruiser

I am in the market for a new Pioneer Platform RR. Can someone tell me the width of the RR planks? I want to know if a Thule Ski rack & Titan Rod Vault can mount to cross bars perpendicular to the planks. Both accessories are currently mounted to my factory roof rack cross bars. I am unsure how to mount them to an RR if unable to clamp them down (unless I figure out custom brackets). Thanks!

Anyone running the pioneer platform in 84"x49"?

I'm curious what it looks like slimming down 3.5" per side.
