Digging through an old shoebox of photos and stumbled upon this (I was actually looking for pics of my old rig)… circa 1990 in Nevada City, CA in my grandparent’s driveway (@mtn biker Ronald isn’t too far away).

1975 FJ40 that I sold for $2,500 to fund a trip to Europe. At least the bezel was correct.

That’s a sweet rig! I had a 74. My girlfriend at the time talked me into selling it because she wanted me to buy a 76 Volkswagen Scirocco…🤨. Was probably ‘89 or 90 I sold mine for $2500 as well. I actually went looking for it a few years ago but the Vin number wouldn’t show up anywhere. Probably totaled.

Sad thing is that father and son that bought my rig, douched it out and the kid totaled it a few months later. Saw him at a party when I got back from Europe etc… and thought I might be able to get her back. I was crushed when he told me it went to the scrap pile.

I always liked sciroccos, I’ve got a great story about one. Wouldn’t know how to spell it unless you did.

Haha. I had to look it up. I want to hear the story someday. Sad about the old rig.

that still has to be the funniest stories I have heard. What makes even funnier is that your grandma loved having Ronald there.

I’ll find a picture of them together, I know I have one somewhere.

In ‘87 I had a ‘77 Scirocco, sold it for $2500 to fund college. It was a fun car, an FJ40 would have been better. Toyota 4x4s came a little. In ‘89 got a pristine ‘80 longbed toyota pickup for $3k.

At long last I have the correct bell housing cover.
3 years and two wrong purchases later and here we are. Thanks to @cruiserland for the part in very good condition. I cleaned it up and hit it with primer and several misty coats of enamel.
Stoked to have this bit of underwear on…

The 40 was way better than the Scirocco! But you know… Girls, high school love! I remember when the Toyota 4 x 4‘s first started showing up with the big tires and lifts. I grew up in a small town in southern Oregon. These were coming up from southern California. It was a big deal! Haha. Also funny how everything sold for around $2500 back then.

Dang, you could eat off that! When I cleaned up mine, I made the mistake of shooting it with gloss black because it’s all I had. Now every time I look under there, it looks like there’s an oil leak. 😂

I want to find a mini truck bed to build a trailer out of. I grew up rolling around in the bed of a single cab Toyota with a bunch of other kids. Riding in the bed of a pickup around town as early as 5 years old was awesome. And totally safe.

It is gloss, but since I was mist coating it took on some tooth. All I had on hand as well🤷🏽

It was a good one.
Tons of parts here if ya have future needs!

While I was up under her putting on the aforementioned BHC I noticed one of my engine mounts was a wee loose. As I am tightening it up I feel something on the top rattling. Lo and behold I find the timing mark cover I’ve never seen on this truck. Just chilling.

Who knows how many miles this guy has been riding in that precarious spot.

I owe @mattressking some gratitude as well for the bell housing cover knowledge dump. He’s Mensa level LC.

I don't remember dumping any knowledge about bell housing covers recently, unless ot was back in my build thread, but thank you nonetheless!
