I’m actually serious… I patched mine with some leftovers from my floor. Had a 90° bend I think it was 10 gauge… Not quite the thickness of angle iron, but although not stock, you would never know from the outside. I’ll go dig up the photo. I thought about trying to do it stock, but I figured they would be less chance of rotting away with the thicker less complicated design. Yours may be further gone than mine was though…and you’re a better fabricator than me.

I missed this somehow.
Strong work!

First time ordering from @orangefj45, George, valley hybrids, cruiser brothers.

Ridiculously fast shipping. It’s like he had a dude around the corner with my order before I knew what it was and dropped it when I hit go.

Ok, not that fast but way faster than expected.

Dang. Coming along great. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks E.

I just went up and looked at it and I’m feeling pretty good about it. I’m glad I walked away when I did last night, sometimes it’s better to just take a break.

Happy thanksgiving to you and all.

Well, finished with the bib repair (waiting on primer to dry before I top coat). Didn’t document it too well as it was a bit stream of consciousness.

Repaired the top of the radiator shroud while I was at it. Put some beefier expanded metal and bent up a little angle for across the top.

Soaked my hood latch and some bolts over night in citric acid, came out looking new. That stuff was caked in rust before.

Hose came in yesterday. I’ll start tackling that tonight I guess.

Looks good. You might make it out of this without taking the tub off after all! 😂

Ha! Thanks. When funds free up I’ll order a bib patch from real steel and do it right (ish).

I will be driving this tomorrow.

Down the road, when my shop is finished, I will do a frame off. For now, I’m sticking to my “only a week down” mantra.

All joking aside, don’t do a frame off unless you have to or have done it before. So many of these are taken apart with the best of intentions and never see the road again for a long time.

I restored aluminum travel trailers for a few years and I totally understand that. In fact, I’ve got an Airstream that still needs to be finished (totally lost motivation) but I did two complete restorations since that one.

I’m attacking all of the rust repair on Norman in situ, the biggest b!tch will be the floor pans and luckily my sill isn’t cheesed. I love this truck far too much to let it languish and the day I got her started for the first time, I swore to myself I’d never let her linger.

It’s perfect. Nice job!

I won’t be showing the back side.

On that note, I decided to leave out the rust sandwich making double plate. I did make a doubler for behind the hinge. Other than that, I don’t see a positive point for doubling up the whole bottom doubler.

Mr. T wasn’t always right. Every effort you make to improve it will make it last longer. 👍

Agreed

While waiting for some paint to dry I’m considering doing the split fan shroud mod to make getting belts on and off easier.

Anyone watching done this? If so, any regrets?

Thanks

Well, she’s running again. In coolant burp mode.
Of course I broke every headlight adjuster plastic dohicky so I’m waiting on those to put her eyeballs back on.

Kept my promise to myself and the girl, less than a week down and I got a lot done that needed doing.

Pretty dang good repair! Almost can’t see it. Austin Beerworks is good stuff.
I appreciate the kind words, it certainly isn’t perfect but it light years better than what was there.

I took another look at the above picture and there is a weird reflection on the lower left that makes it look worse than it actually is.
