I read about someone flipping the front springs around to give a little more space in the front wheelwell.

Does anyone have any more info?
Especially wondering if it will need modifications to the steering.

Thanks

depends on the model but i have reversed the complete front packs on a few 70s now and it works fantastic. it centers the wheel into the opening, creates much better handling and the ride actually seems to be better.
other models i have not tried it so i can't comment...
cheers

It's a HZJ73 with Dobinson springs

I think I am the one that started on here about spring design. I first did my BJ70 and since have down another BJ70 and Bj74. As Crushers stated it works great centers the axle and handles better. I will tell you that I have only done with with Belton springs. The springs you are running should be the same length.

Good Luck,

Michael

Maybe Lowenbrau will pipe up. I believe he has been doing this to his BJ70 for years. Something is telling me there is an issue with broken springs...Could be recalling wrong though.

I simply drilled the perchs on the axle 3/4" of an inch back, bringing the axle that much forward. I can fit true 35's with no rubbage. It can rip off the mudflaps though, as the lugs catch them in certain situations.

I only broke springs when I was running OMEs backwards and had the military wrap on the shackle end. Because of the flat spot on the Emu design I couldn't flip the mil wrap where it ought to be. Now I'm using a hybrid Ironman/Belton pack and have no trouble. You really do well to reposition the axle about 1.5 inches ahead. Any more and you have trouble with the steering rods interfering with each other.

Cool, I though it was from simply flipping the springs and not flipping the military wrap leaf back to proper orientation, but could not remember.

I am suprised it can move that much forward and have no interference with the rods. My 3/4" forward looks real close as it is...

So what if we traded steering linkages? I figure if I used a RHD rod end I could put the drag link on the other side of the tie rod. That should give all sorts of room. I'm an hour from my truck right now so I'm going by memory.

Lets just move the tie-rod behind the axle and be done with it...:D

Is Kodi getting a playmate?
