Reverse switch backup light?

I want to put a back up light on the drivers side rear over the Toyota emblem...There are a couple holes there that I can cover with a much needed backup light...
Question is:
Is there a back up switch that will bolt up to my floor shifted 3sp on my 65 or will I have to mod something up? Otherwise I'll have to hook the light to a switch and turn it on when I back.....which we all know is going to be aggravating and will end up with me driving down the road with the back up light 0n.....

Curious as well about this. The PO of my rig moved the column shift to the floor. Now I dont have a backup light switch. What do I need?

IIRC there was a place to screw in a switch on the floor shifter, I was going to on mine but never got around to it when I went from column to floor shifter.
I do have a F R E E switch I tried to get rid of this morning if you need one, You pay shipping

Probably it came with a column shift and the floor shift is a later upgrade, in which case it will have the provision for the switch, but I don't really know if factory floor shifted 65 and earlier trucks had that provision. Certainly the column shift on my 65 didn't, but my later 70 column shift has one.

Got your PM Vitesse_6...I think the next step for me is to research where the switch could mount if theres provision for it...

I'll start looking through pics, SOR and my MAF catalog...

Otherwise I get to fabricate something?

As I recall Its a simple bracket that bolts up to your steering column and the switch screws into It, and their maybe wiring all ready installed check your oem wiring chart Toyota provided the wiring nessary at least in my 66 it Is. Back up lights wasn't standard equiptment intill 1968

The bracket's for the column shift. It wouldn't work without a column shift setup.

Floorshift trucks that had them have a screw hole on the back side of the top shift plate on the tranny (a standard spark plug fits the hole). My FJ45 came with a floor shift (retrofitted), and since it wasn't wired or lighted, the PO had just filled the hole with a spark plug.

Chances are good that your shifter plate will have a threaded hole pointing to the back toward the passenger's side. I have a old tranny with the plate for the switch if your doesn't have it. PM me if you need it.

No IT'S, next to the steering box close to the left side of the fire wall not the tranny

If you have stock wiring Its one of the two red with blue stripe wires next to the Voltage regulator thats the power side going to the backup switch from the switch to your backup light

You might be able to peek up under there from below and see it but it's tight. You'll have to pull the tranny hump to do anything with it.

Yeah Dusty...floor shift.....Your backup light pictures are great...

Since I'm not on the 100% resto plan I bought a 7.99 utility light from NAPA that looks identical to whats in your pics....I did have to put a rubber gasket on between the light and paint though....

The OEM one was Cheep $22. for an OEM part, and came with a rubber gasket

I looked again at my identical one and its not so terribly identical so maybe i'll order the oem light since its priced right.....Let me go back and look at the pic you linked to for the part #...

Here's a picture of the switch on the top of the transmission. If you take the rubber boot off you shifter you could probably see if you have it or not

Not all of the 3 speed floor shifts have a spot for the switch. Not sure if it is the OEM ones or the after market ones. I have one with no place for the switch...
