I installed a backup camera last weekend. I have a Sony XAV-68BT head unit and a Esky EC135-05 camera from amazon. Paid $20 for the camera.
I connected the power for the camera and the signal wire to the head unit off the reverse light so the camera is only on when in reverse. I was told it gets hot with all the LEDs on all the time and may cause overheating. Not sure if it true for this model but this setup seems to work well.
The camera said about a 165 degree viewing angle. Not even close (see pictures) but still happy with the camera.
It stick out about 1.5 inches. That’s more than I thought. I wanted to tuck it in a bit to avoid snags and keep it out of the sun.
The camera swivels up and down (very nice) so you can point it down to look at the hitch.
I set up some items so you know where the items are when you look at the image. As you can see, the full view of the camera is more like 90 or 100 degrees, not the advertised 165 or 170. Also, I had to point the lens down to be able to see the trailer hitch
Its difficult to see but you can make out the top of the trailer hitch in the screen. Also, the orange jack stands are about 4 feet from the camera and the black jack stand is 2.5 feet with the step stool at 5 feet away.
The garage is messy, but i hope you get the idea.
