As I recall the pulley on the AC compressor is smaller on the diesels because the diesels don't rev as much as the gas engines. Don't know if that is helpful or not.

As far as I know, the ac box, controls, etc, inside the cab is identical gas vs diesel at least up to around 2000. Biggest problem I have had is finding the AC box and fan, etc., for a LHD vehicle. There should be plenty of those parts in Australia if your truck is RHD. For what it is worth I'd go with OEM setup.

Ok, I've collected nearly all the parts for my AC system refresh. The only thing I don't have yet is the evaporator. On ToyoDIY and PartsOUQ, I see two part numbers listed for my VIN ('90 RHD hzj75):
  • 88501-60050 (EVAPORATOR SUB-ASSY, COOLER, NO.1)
  • 88501-60080 (EVAPORATOR SUB-ASSY, COOLER, NO.1)
I'm not sure what the difference is. They have different prices on amayama. I don't want to accidentally get the wrong one (ex: a rear ac evaporator). I'm also curious about aftermarket options or maybe getting one from Denso.

Suggestions?
Hi, my '99 HZJ75 is also from down under and I think I have a leakage in the low pressure part of the A/C system (as it takes weeks to drop pressure after refill). Which evaporator did you end up buying and where? Do you recommend any other parts of the A/C system replacing once I open it up? Thanks

I sourced as many OEM parts as I could find and Georg’s ( @orangefj45) team worked with a local AC shop near his shop to make custom lines using my old OEM connectors as possible. We’re having a heatwave right now and my AC is blowing cold, for which I’m grateful.
