Edmonds Battery

Was in a jam yesterday, batteries died and BJ71 wouldn't start. Had it jumped and drove to Canadian tire.....was told that they could not accommodate me and did not carry any batteries for my cruiser...they suggested Lordco......I made a few phone calls and the folks at Edmonds Battery (Burnaby) were super helpful and understanding.

I spoke to a fella there who was the Manager of the Langley location and was covering for someone. He gave me a fair deal on my batteries, installed, and they come with a 7 year warranty. He knew his batteries and has worked on cruisers in the past.

Here are a couple:
Baja Auto Body, Rory does good, fair work, A friend of mine was quoted over $1200 to repair a large dent on a door. I told him to go to Rory who I have known for a long time and even without name dropping he got the job done right for $550.
Baja Auto Body is in Port Moody - 604.461.4343

Vancouver Brake and Wheel - Don (owner) is a really good guy and has a shop that can do a lot of different jobs. They specialize in exhaust, brakes, smaller mechanical jobs. They are fair, and it's individually owned so they work hard to make sure they maintain their reputation.
604.461.3258

Coquitlam Auto Parts Plus - Dan is the manager there and more importantly he is the main go to guy for auto parts. He has gone out of his way for not only me but all his customers to find that impossible part or get a better price for it. He's been able to find stuff that everyone else does not even have a listing for and for great prices. tell him I sent you or you're part of the club, just be patient as he is popular.

*** AERS Radiators ***

1415 Hunter St
North Vancouver, BC
(604)986-2121

I went there based on another post elsewhere on this forum. Call and ask for Gary. No doubletalk, top quality work, fair prices. Gary's been working on rads since he was a teenager. When I was in there yesterday, he was working on a 1904 Model N rad. He's a fan of cruisers, has a preference for maintaining original Toyota design and systems, and gets pleasure from seeing the work done well.

x2 on AERS rads

X3 Aers. We take the big marine heat exchangers there. Gary is the goods.

John Barron of Radd Cruisers is very knowledgeable. John supplied me a set of heavy 60 rear springs (OME CS005RA) for the rear and the OME X-Leaf (changes the CS006F front spring to a CS007F) to deal with my tire rubbing problem. This raised my truck about 1 1/2 " on the rear and about 1 " on the front. Same cost as re-arcing and add a leaf -- and I have new rear springs.

Quick delivery and installation. I would recommend John and value his opinion.

Although, I still support the above recommendation - in principle, I would advise anyone getting work done at RADD Cruisers to get a firm quote
prior to authorizing repair or fabrication work.

That's essential advice for any shop.

Excellent service at EBI

I'd just like to give a big thanks to Steve at EBI for his excellent service in rushing to get me a new roof rack for our upcoming trip.
I've been eyeing up all sorts of racks for quite some time now, but was to gun shy to pull the trigger, as I didn't really need one and they are fairly expensive. But after attempting a preliminary packing assessment for the the upcoming Rubithon trip, there was no way in hell everything was going to fit without a rack, and as usual, I left everything to the last minute.
ARB had no racks in Canada, and were 10 days away (I have 3 days max), nothing on Craigslist, and just couldn't hook up with Vanny to see if what he had would work.
So we now have a new Thule with the moab basket, not quite what I wanted, but it will have to do now. Steve saved me a couple hundred bucks vs. getting the rack from Capit or Rack Attack as well.
Thanks again Steve.

If you are ever in the unfortunate need for a tow Williams lake /100 mile house Antle towing and recovery 250-396-7306 or 100 mile auto rescue Matt 250 395-6409 both of these guys were very reasonable and ..helpful.

machine shop,Dick at Talvan in surrey does fantastic work at resonable prices, when I reach my limitations I'm glad these guys are close by.

x4 for Aers, I have dealt with Gary for 9 years now with all my cruiser stuff. I was there so often they asked me to work as a delivery driver for a while until they found a new one. Gary is always honest and no BS.

Also Aers has another side to it, they also do electrical work and A/C stuff. Had my starter rebuilt there.

Fred Holmes is a good place to get some Denso parts as well as Stanadyne fuel additive for cheaper than most other places. Toyota North Van sends the diesel injectors there to get rebuilt. They will rebuild the pumps as well.

If you want to pay Toyota to work on your vehicle, ask for Darryl at JP Toyota in North Van, he loves working on Cruisers and used to live in Australia and drive a diesel 40 which he rebuilt. Great guy to chat with even if you just have a question.

I'd like to put in another good work for John at ATEB. I had my 81 in for him to inspect and prep up for our California/Rubicon trip and install/wire up my inverter and solar power.
Along with my large list of to-do things for him, he added in some of the little extra things it needed (at no extra charge) like a splash shield over the exhaust/starter, welded up the cracks in the frame at the steering box, and numerous other items.
Great work as usual, and it made for a worry free trip. Thanks again John.

ATEB John had my truck just before yours Jeff, He had it 3 days and attended to all the tune up issues I requested, but at the same time, and at no charge, he corrected a load of annoying details (welded frame crack- for example) at no charge. The work I asked him to do was done very reasonably as well. I handed him $40 at the start because the truck was on empty and he had a bunch of test driving to do. Upon picked it up he pressed the fuel receipt into my hand for $40. Of course he also topped it up with his own BIO, free, to help lube the pump. Nice.

ATEB/John&Philip,

1991 HDJ81 have been serviced by honest mechanics in a friendly shop for the last 3 years. They can fabricate stuff for your immediate needs. (re-routed exhaust system to prevent being dragged, lift, rock sliders etc)

ATEB at Burnaby is highly recommended.

My experience with the following shops has been put to the test over many years:

Dale's Alignment and Brake (Surrey/Langley)
A&B Transmission (Langley)
Alder Auto (Port Kells) - Everything from metric nuts/bolts to parts to fabrication supplies
EBI
RADD

whats in a name? whats the deal? hmmm say no more. thanks for your recommendations , sorry to hear your plight , sounds more truck related. i have found over the years that owning a 4x4 is alot more cost effective ,if self diagnostic measures can be narrowed down to a few things, it can save you big big things . try (mud search ) on ih8mud.and good chances are, you might even get the free advice from the same guys your testing. no to cut down other capable trucks, but sounds like your lucky its not a mercedes or landrover(been there ). but hey if i can help you out in any way for free give me a pm, .
