Hey all! I recently joined the 100 club (2003 LC ~200,000 miles. woo!) and on the trip back home from picking it up (Houston to LA) the power steering pressure line starting leaking. I'm planning on replacing all the lines since it's right under 200k, and was planning on doing OEM. Any recommendations on finding the lines cheaper that $350-400? Anything I should go on ahead and replace while I'm pulling stuff out? The pump is quiet (as long as I keep the fluid topped) so I don't 'think' I need to replace it yet.

Thanks in advance for the help!

just did the sunsong this weekend took 45 min. up top you will need 22mm or 24 cant remember. down low 17mm open end wrench. straight forward and easy just have a oil drain pan ready.

What year cruiser? There are slight differences in the lines for 98-02 and 03-08. I think the rockauto Sunsong part is for the 03-08 (even though it says 98-02). I used it on my 02 and it fit, but it wasn't the same as my original and it ended up tighter that I was happy with.

Solid point—mine's an 03, and that's what I looked up.

03. Looked at the Sunsong, just debating it vs OEM.

Thanks for the info!

I was just under my rig last weekend and noticed I also have a leak in the high pressure line.

Any tips for keeping air out of the system when installing or do you just bleed the air after the install?

You’ll need to bleed after. Wasn’t a big deal for me. Don’t even recall the pump whining much. I unhooked the reservoir and tucked it a little lower so that the rubber hoses were the high point just to reduce how much fluid would drain out. You could also evacuate the reservoir with a turkey baster or something and take the opportunity to deep clean it. It would be a good idea especially if you haven’t done it yet.

Might want to pick up a 17mm flare crows foot wrench per this thread. I ordered one for $7 on Amazon just in case I need it when I go in to do this repair.

Awesome, thanks.

Did you take the oil filter off to get easier access?

I haven’t started the repair yet. I’ve ordered parts and tools and am going to tackle it in the coming weeks. I figure it’s better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it … especially when the marginal cost is $7.

Definitely. I'm planning on cutting it out myself. will get it so I can tighten the new one on. I'll let you know how it goes hah!

remove oil filter...no need to drain the oil. just be ready to catch said oil from the filter. i just used a 17 mm socket and 17 mm wrench on the bottom side (crows foot wasnt necessary, but could give some extra leverage if you need it)

Alright, I spent the evening working on this... I cannot for the life of me get the rack side lines to line up. Did you have to do any bending of the lines or adjusting of the brace brackets? The Banjo (not sure what' it's called) just won't line up. it's slighty off center of the bolt hole. I was able to get the other line on, but still can't get the circle line to line up. Any suggestions?

yeah no worries mine didnt either. un-do that clamp that is on the metal portion of the lines holding both of them together. attach the rack side first, loosely and then push both lines together so that you can clamp them up again. this should make life much easier.

Yup! I just finished doing this haha. I put the pump side lines on first... and that was my mistake. I took it all off, put the banjo first on the rack side, then slowly 'bent/flexed' everything into place... if I was smarter, I would have figured that out last night and saved myself a few hours.
