Replacing floor in m100... 12ga or 10ga (1 Viewer)

I will make length wise ribs out of 2x1" flat stock to give it strength but could use some suggestions on replacimg the floor thickness. What say you..12ga or 10ga?

12ga is .105" thick and ways about 5lbs per square foot and 10ga is .135" thick and ways about 6lbs per square foot. If it were me I would use the 10ga. Hope this helps.

I would cut the center out of a pick-up bed in the junkyard. Those ribs are there to strengthen the floor w/o increasing it's weight.

Unless you want a flat floor, in which case I'd go with the 12 ga. for normal duty and would only consider 10 ga. if the trailer is going to be beat on and/or loaned out.

For me, it would all depend on use. If you’re talking about something you can dump dirt and rocks into with a frontend loader, I’d be looking at the 10ga (or heavier) and a flat floor (no welded on ribs like you’re suggesting) so that I could shovel it out easily. If you’re talking about using it for camping or light hauling where you’re just placing items in there, I’d go with ntsqd’s option to save weight. Some use in between those two would call for some construction between those two…

a trailer will look pretty crummy quickly if dented and banged up. It's a small light trailer overall, so I'd go with the heavier stock.

10 gauge is way too heavy for your needs. 12 is more than sufficient the weight factor alone is a headache you don't need.

My 2 cents... I'm with PAToyta, it depends on what you're going to use it for. I throw firewood and road rock in my flatbed truck and it gets dented up. I would go heavy and have a nice bed for a while. The lighter you go, the more dents you'll have. If just camping, go light.
