Genuine Toyota Windshield

I bought a new 40 windshield for my '82 from the local stealership in mid-2007. Cost was $54 and change.

Early last year I needed another windshield, went to the same stealership and was told there had been a "slight" price increase from Toyota. New price was almost $300. My price was something like $275 IIRC. I got the hell out of there and had a new windshield cut at the local glass shop--$80.

Makes me wonder WTF Toyota is thinking with an almost 4-fold price increase. :hhmm:

paid $125 with frame off. That was for removal and install of a tinted window with the same gasket.

I've had several windshields replaced in the past few years. Pretty sure the $80 40 windshield came from Floyd's Glass in Taylor.

Custom Glass - Commercial Window Glazing, Car Window Detailing Tint, Residential Replacement Glass, Auto Body Repair - Taylor Texas

In Austin, the cheapest I've found is Ace Discount Glass

Ace Discount Glass - Austin, TX- Fast Glass, Windshield & Window Repair, Austin TX

You might also consider buying a windshield from Cruisercorps. I think they're on sale now. Install it yourself--soap and rope procedure.

Can't help you with the rubber seal and lock question. '73 uses a different weatherstrip than 78+ models.

thank you thank you

Just ordered one from Cruiser Corps....$150.00 to the door (but I only live a couple hours away) When I called them earlier this week I think he mentioned it was the last one in stock. They're great to deal with and will probabbly let you know when they're getting more.

I beleive OEM windshields have gone up for I just purchased a new one about 6-8 months ago after much searching and it was around $400 IIRC at the local Toyota dealer and they gave me a military discount. The rope trick which you can find online on here on MUD was very simple to install yourself and actually pretty cool. I ended up doing all my glass that way to include the curved back glass.

Roberto,

I was thinking of replacing all of my w/s and have a quick question. If I do the rope trick, do I still need to buy that "key" that they sell to you at the same time when you buy the w/s?

The rope trick has nothing to do with the key. If your windshield frame is a 71 you need the key to lock in the weatherstrip. And you need the smaller early windshield glass.
