Replacement shocks for 06 w AHC

I am struggling thru search but not getting any straight answers.
Front end bouncing, have 185k on original shocks. Take to dealership for alternator ask them to price shock replacement they want 1000 bucks for two shocks! Any ideas what i can do? Obviousky these arent the same shocks I can put on a non AHC truck but 500 each?

PS AHC system adjusts up and down at stoplites all the time. In past Dealer says it is just "resetting itself" and is normal. I have searched this also w mixed results. Mostly seems like fluid low/needs flush but worried dealer cant figure that out or will charge $$$. Mentioning this in case connected to original question.

PPS- like a dip**** i forgot I had asked about the height changes a couple of years ago til I just re-read my own history. PADDO et al were kind enough to explain aome of thise issues the last time I asked. Will get on the fluid level...

After offline suggestion from MUD member i am going to strip out AHC and go w OME suspension. Long term cost is way better than fixing/maintaining system at dealer. Cheers.

If you strip out the ahc. I would like to buy the lines from the shocks to the globe's from you.

Hi. New to forum, and have exactly the same issue with me 07 LC. Took to dealer, they recommended front shocks be replaced. Did that, same problem exists. Height control still works but as soon as I stop for certain period of time, the front end drops then raises again. Front end very bouncy too......

Have thought about switching to OME but am wondering that will negatively affect resale value ?

I can not imagine that it would impact resale value. If anything, I would consider it a positive that the AHC was removed. Most buyers are aware of the costs associated with maintaining AHC and know going in that it will require replacement/maintenance at some point. That being a very expensive adventure, most buyers would view the lack of AHC as potentially positive.

I love my AHC. As long as it works, I'm keeping it. But, I knew going in that once it failed, I was going to conventional.

Also, most seem to go with IronMan or Tough Dog suspensions now vs OME. The OME I believe used to be very good, but have fallen on hard times r.e. reliability as I've read.

Thanks Geanes. Agreed. I've been considering tough dog for some time as well....

So with install of conventional, do you include air bags on rear for heavier towing etc ? Also, if a lift is done as well, is diff drop a must ?

Removing the AHC and replacing with a conventional setup is the way to go, no more worries about unwanted height changes and you'll get a better ride. I went with Bilstein shocks, Ridepro springs and heavy duty torsion bars.

Also, if a lift is done as well, is diff drop a must ?

I think the recommendation is any lift over 1.5" should include a diff drop.

As far as air bags, I'd just load up and see how the vehicle sits. If the back end is sagging more than you prefer then add the air bags.

New front Lexus AHC shocks can be purchased for $350. If you're not afraid of some wrenching, you can do this alot cheaper than what the dealership is asking.

Hi Mike, talk to Daz @ Autocraft (aka 4xoverland) in Geelong, Victoria. He sells suspension upgrade kits with all the components you'll need. If removing AHC, you'll need to tweek the computer so no error codes come up. I went with the Bilstein Platinum kit - shocks, springs, torsion bars, diff drop, works a treat.

For those that have completely removed their AHC components, any advice on getting to the top bolt that holds the actuator/globe assembly to the frame? I have some non AHC sliders coming and cant seem to fit anything up there.

To the OP...ditch ACH (especially at your mileage) and go with a conventional aftermarket suspension.

I got a piece of advice to adjust torsion bars. So might give that a go. If no result, my only option I feel is to switch out to conventional....

I'd flush it first. I did it with 1 fan and it's a day and night difference in how the suspension reacts. If a globe fails later worry about it then.
