PayPal'd on Jan 2, arrived and installed Jan 12th. Paid $59.40 US for the pair shipped after currency conversion compaired to the local Toy dealer wanting $226 + tax for the pair. Great quality and perfect matchup to the oem holes.

Bought both rear hatch struts and hood struts from these guys today, $116 including shipping for everything... Pretty good price imo..
I got around to putting these on today. Nice improvement from the originals. As mentioned before, I only need to unlatch and pull the hatch 4-6" from the truck and it goes up the rest of the way on its own. Trying to close the hatch required quite the strong pull too.

I ordered the struts from AU EBay too a couple weeks ago. I think they came quicker than parts I've ordered from California. It was like a week and a half total to my door. And cheaper with shipping included. I forget the exact amount with conversion, but less than $60 TOTAL. Awesome.
Haven't mounted them up yet, (I usually like to smack my head 4 or 5 times before turning around and taking them off the shelf behind me and installing them), but from other posts they should be better than new.

For those who got the aus struts, how are they holding up in cold winter? That is my main concern as my almost new stocks in Sienna aren't performing well in freezing weather.
In addition, will the mount work for 96 LX w/o any mod?

I haven't installed them yet, but here was the link from when I bought them.
I've got to say mine feel "sticky" when I try to close the hatch. I really have to pull hard to overcome a binding feeling. On opening, I pull the hatch open 3-4" and the struts do the rest, just really sloooooowwwlly. It takes a good 10-12 seconds for the hatch to fully open. I dunno if it's just the cold weather or maybe I should lube the piston a bit (any suggestions?)

Cool. Just want to make sure the fitting works for 96 LX. I read some where that Toyota changed mounting bracket for LX mid-year of 1996. (not sure whether it is true). Could I bother someone snap the close-up pictures for the mounting brackets of the new struts (mostly the bottom piece)? Many thanks in advance.

I just went out and put them on. Heck of a lot stiffer. Seem to work great. It definitely pushes the hatch up as advertised.
Didn't notice any "binding" as noted earlier. Just really stiff(like it's supposed to be I would assume?)
Anyway, for $56 I got a happy ending

edit: garage was 55 degrees so maybe not a good cold weather test. I'll try it again next time we're down to -30.

They do seem really slow in the cold. They push all the way up eventually, but I think I'd like to see them quicker. Do they break in maybe? Price wise and simplicity, still probably worth it.

$118.90 shipped to west coast... Hopefully ill have a good product on my doorstep soon like some of you. Oh yeah that price is for the rear hatch and the hood struts
(IIRC it was AUD$1 = USD$0.88 a year ago)...
I noticed mine had a bit of a "notchy" feel at first, which seems to have gone away quite a bit over time. I guess they may have broken in. Still happy overall for the $$.
Any ideas on hood struts? I had no idea that the hatch is suppose to lift itself. Gotten cold here been hit twiceordering some today.
I've got a good story to tell:
Very cold here. I had to jumpstart my HDJ81 the other day. When the big diesel was turning over, the vibrations caused the hood (with weak original struts) to start to come down - ON THE BOOSTER LEADS!!!! The hood slammed down pretty hard. I envisioned a shower of sparks and all sorts of other mayhem. Luckily, the leads have plastic covers on the handles, and they "folded" down while still attached to the battery posts. No harm done - this time.
So I'm ordering new struts for my hood and my hatch. With the favourable exchange, I'll be ordering from eBay Australia.
Hmmm...the Aussie ebay seller currently does not have any struts listed on ebay. bummer.
I find it very hard to believe that they're aren't any other OEM interchangeable japanese or american struts from other vehicles that can work with a little modification.

Pick-a-part lots are pretty cheap for gas struts. Would Lexus LS400 hood struts work on an FJ80 hood?
