I had the contacts replaced at the dealer. They were something like $20 plus labor (big bucks). The way I saw it, if the contacts were not done right, then the dealer workmanship was guaranteed too. I would only be paying once. A new starter was, as Spresso put it, aftermarket and hundreds of dollars and the remans were out of the question for me, as their lifespan is shortened before you install. In fact the reman may have simply been new contacts and cleaning. As I understand it, the act of replacing the contacts is pretty simple, once you get to the starter.
