Hi there,

Great forum, hope I might be able to get some answers. I want to remove my running boards from my '97 but can't seem to find any replacement parts to come off the bottom of the front fender flares that will continue that line down and allow (maybe include) mudflaps. It doesn't look right with the flare just ending square. I've seen them on another 80 but can't find them anywhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Evan

Take the flaps off...they just get in the way and cause more of a headache. Just my $.02

Hey Micky:

If you are talking about the fronts after you take your running boards off, they do look kind of weird. CruiserDan (CDan) sells them (he's the king of cruiser parts and all around great guy) for a price...they're kinda expensive, but they look better and work better than what you have on after you take your boards off.

You can reach CDan this way:

What I did till I could afford these was just reinstall them after taking off the boards, and cutting them down a bit so they 'looked' like mud guards...

In any event, welcome :flipoff2:

Best.

Thanks,
I'll give him a call. Hopefully, this will take the "soccar mom" edge off the car. I'm coming from an '88 FJ-62 and while I'm very happy with the car, it's nowhere near as tough looking. I also have another question about the '80 about locking differentials but I'll start a new thread.

Thanks again,
Evan

You could try cutting some rubber to size and shape. Shouldn't be all that hard if you make templates first and do the cutting with a small grinder or jig saw.

80's definately look a little sweeter without the running boards . Mudflaps finish it all off nicely . Mine are full size , and have not been trimmed down .

Damn , it's hard to even make out the mudflaps in those pics , at least on my monitor .

This simple pic shows the curve continuing nicely ...

TY,

Your rig really looking level and no sign of STS. Now you need a sliders and a snorkel. Wow! looking high and mighty tough, that's the legendary Land Cruiser should be!

He did not pay me jack sh!t. I just want to compliment the guy for his hard work and what he did to his cruiser. One day my LX would look just like that. A real tough looking rig.

on thing interesting about Ty's photos is that they answer the question I had posed some time back about whather the flaps are good enough to keep gravel off the doors etc. You can see the snow sprayed on the door and flare. So I guess the answer is no, they don't protect anywhere as well as the running boards, as one might have expected...

e9999999999999999999999999.99 , you right on man . I loved the fact that I had just washed the 80 there . It gave me a real idea of the mudflaps short comings in this regard .

I'm really hoping that when I fatten out the stance with 10" wheels , that some sliders will help correct this overspraying . Even if I have to mod a set of bought sliders so that they have heavy mesh welded on the upper surface ...

Tyler,

I'm pretty sure you spend extra time cleaning the dust, dirt and mud off your doors. If you drive with the window open, there's a chance you'll get some in the eye. Those flaps serve a real function.

This pic clearly reveals the affected areas . This was taken after driving approx. 10 miles post wash .

TY, i bet that truck is a blast to drive in the winters up there! I look forward to the one to two days of 1 inch snow we get just so i can drive around in my 80. I still say the 80 is the best snow truck i have ever driven.

of course, you're a bit higher than many too...

I have the same problem. I am going to Line-X the rocker panels and flares. I can't wait.
