I have the FSM and I have been studying the steps.
Since I rebuilt my front a year ago with all new parts, I am interested in not disturbing any oil seals, bearings etc' while removing the front axles.

It will be my first time and I will be doing it in my driveway.
The project is to remove the front third member and this is one of the steps.

The steps that is a bit confusing to me is "removal of front axle" part. They make it sound too easy.

From the FSM:
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB (See page
SA–8)
2. REMOVE ABS SPEED SENSOR

Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the speed sensor from the
steering knuckle.
3. REMOVE DUST SEAL AND DUST COVER
Remove the 8 bolts, dust seal, dust cover and gasket.
4. REMOVE KNUCKLE SPINDLE
(a) Using a brass bar and hammer, tap the knuckle spindle
of the steering knuckle.
(b) Remove the knuckle spindle and gasket.
5. REMOVE AXLE SHAFT
Position one flat part of the outer shaft upward and remove the
axle shaft.

Any one can confirm the above, provide gotcha, recommend steps to make it easier is appreciated.

The reason it is confusing is that removal of the axles seams to be a part of rebuilding the front, but I am only interested in removing the axles as a step to remove the front differential.

be sure to drain the oil and yes, removing the axles is part of rebuilding the front axle. Everything that you have already done needs to be done again with the exception of the seals on the back side of the knuckle and repacking the birfs.

IMHO count on replacing gaskets, seals and have 1 or 2 cone washers on hand for the inevitable "WhereTF did that go?" Probably a good time to inspect bearings, races, etc... You may not need to split the birfs off, but if you aren't repacking them, be sure to wrap them well in something right when they come out to keep the dirt out of them.

Pulling the thirds includes doing a front axle job - both sides - and all that entails.

Be sure to engage the lockers before you start (if equipped).

So, why are you pulling the thirds anyway? Regear? Locker install? Just want to see it on your bench?
