The '88 FJ62 I just bought has the frame filled with fine dry(for now) dirt. Should a person try to remove most of it. When it gets wet it just promotes rust but if you remove it the O2 can get to it and cause rust. What is the best way to get all that dirt out of the frame through those small holes?

Screwdriver and Compressed air. Maybe try a shopvac.

LANDA- 300* hot h20 pressure washer

Available at most tool rental places.

This is the magic wand you are looking for.....

Most rental places are closed on SUN.

Reserve one on a SAT and return it MON.

I was only charged for 1 days rent and had the machine for almost 2 days.

Rent and fuel came out to $100. Find a buddy and split the costs/ use of machine.

Blast steam thru the frame until all the water coming from the holes is clear.

Regular pwashers won't cut it......... the h20 must be steaming hot.
The hot water also washes off grease like butter.

watch out for radiator fins

stay away from distributor, coils, and alternators (or dry them afterwards)

and try not to knock vacuum hoses off

Right after buying my first cruiser, we took it to a paint shop where the owner loaned us his industrial pressure washer. The hour I spent washing the undercarriage took 6 hours to repair later. :( Most of that was time spent trying to straighten out a severely bruised radiator.

Oh, and those little rubber boots that come on the brake bleeders.... pull 'em first or forget about 'em.
