So I have a flat and my freaking lock nut key broke.....I knew I should have replaced it with normal lugs. Anyways is there a way other than welding a nut on it to get this POS lock nut from McGard out?

I tried using a 19mm 12 point socket but it just keeps slipping out. Any other method that worked. This daam thing is a pain in the rear....and to think I'll only have to do it for all 4 wheels. WTF...

Additionally which lock nuts should I get to replace this POS...

x2 If you have not cracked the socket yet, you haven't tried hard enough. But if you've split it all the way down, you might have tried too much! :) Additionally, if you have a cut-off tool, you might be able to add a couple of slots on the lock for grip.

As my son would say, “they make an app for that!”

You can by lug nut remover kits on Amazon man.

I tried both. The daam thing is round enough that it does not budge.

This nit is a 20mm size. So it's not a standard size and hence a pita. This this is becoming quite a pain in the arse Btw.

Any other suggestions?

Been there done that using 19mm socket 6 sided and 12 sided one. No cigar.

This thing is more pita that it needs to be.

Curious that the A-holes that stole the wheels off of my 87 Trans Am, 30 something years ago, didn’t seem to have the same problems with McGard locks.

Or I’m thinking I hammered the original key on one of them and got it to bite just enough for a turn. Like hammered it in hard.

if it's real boogered up you may need to tack weld a socket on, but I am sort of amazed the hammered socket didn't work, you could possibly shape the lug up a bit with a grinder and try hammering socket on again, and don't be shy, wail on it like it owes you money

I used a socket that was just big enough to fit over the lock nut .. then went to town on it with an impact gun until it grabbed and bit. It’ll spin and spin until it gets enough friction to grab .. but this method worked for me… I’ve also used the hammer on socket method with success on another car.
