Remote won't program (1 Viewer)

I know, I know, I've already searched the database, don't find my problem. I jut received my second remote for the alarm system in my 97 and I cannot get it to program, all other functions seem to work fine with the ECU, but when I hold down the green button till the dash light comes on for the 5 seconds & push my remote button, nothing happens, no single flash, no chirp, nothing, I have tried wiping all the programs from the ECU to start from scratch, it give me the 3 flash indicator that it's wiped, but no go on getting the remote to communicate.

No not a new one, Ebay'd, but I did take it to the dealer to verify it's the right one.

Is the case a lighter color that the one that is working?

Not sure on the numbers, I can't make anything out on the back of the remote, but the parts guy at the dealer didn't look for numbers either, just said it looked just like the one on his comp screen for it...... that's what I get for trying to save a few bucks

No, actually, it's almost black, really dark gray

Yes, as far as I can remember, I sent the first one back when the service guy at my dealer couldn't even get it to program, but he showed me how to do it for when I received this one so I wouldn't have to go all the way back there just for that. I also printed off the owners manual for reference.

OK I am confused. I understood you to have at least one functioning remote. I guess that is not the case. What was the part number on the one the dealer supplied?

Let me start over, I bought a remote off Ebay, took it to the dealer to confirm it's the right one(don't beleive anyone checked any part numbers though, just went off the overall look, it looks just like the one in the owners manual), was dark gray in color, service guy couldn't get it to program, so sent it back, received replacement today, tried to program myself, no go.

Are the buttons on the remote darker than the case or are they the same color?

You have the incorrect remote. There are two versions that look alike. The later version has a case lighter than the buttons. It will not work in pre 1998 vehicles. You need an 08191-00870. You have been getting 08191-00871's

Yup - you need a BLACK remote, the Gray one won't work.

You can program a black remote to a gray system, but not a gray remote to a black system.
