Remote trans cooler and oil cooler

I'm running a B&M trans cooler on my other car, but I think they're meant for auto trans, where heat is a problem due to slippage. Are you thinking about running it for a manual trans? I don't think the FJ40's have a fluid pump to circulate the fluid in the tranny.

Are you talking about finding a cooler that will be both tranny fluid and engine oil in the same cooler??

If so I have one that came with my cruiser and knowing the people that owned this thing before it probably came from autozone or something. Basically you would be looking for a cooler with two inlets and two outlets.

B&M makes some good coolers

Check his build up. He's running a SBC and auto tranny.

Ah..that makes a lot more sense now.

I think most OEM tranny coolers are integrated into the radiator, presumably to help warm the tranny fluid to operation temperature as well as cool it. So I don't think there's any problem running two separate fluids in the two different chambers if that's what you're worried about. I dont' think there's much, if any difference, between an oil cooler or tranny cooler, they're just mini-radiators.

B&M coolers supposedly have a feature that bypasses the cooler to prevent the tranny fluid from overcooling. Don't know how true this is, never had to worry about over cooling in CA. But supposedly it could prevent your torque converter from locking up if the fluid is too cool.

I posted this thread from my phone so I was not clear enough..

Yes I want to run both a tranny cooler and oil cooler in one "mini-radiator" (aka remote oil cooler with 2 circuits)

The remote cooler would just have trans lines and oil lines run to it and would have a fan on it.

I don't know if the oil or trans fluids types make a difference or if temperture transfer between fuilds makes a difference either.

Anyone ever see a config with a single dual circuit remote cooler running both trans and oil through it?

That cooler you have pictured would work

I don't imagine having the two put together would affect performance. It would be adequate for the engine oil, but I have seen tranny coolers that were much bigger, not sure if it was necessary or not. IIRC, you have an overdrive auto so are gonna have a little more slippage, friction, and heat over say a 3 speed auto, not sure if it would be enough to consider a bigger cooler though.
