I need some help putting together the pieces of my carb fan. I have the fan, but no bolts. I also need to see if I only need to hoop up the one connection for it to work. My truck was desmogged and I am not sure what to look for. any help is appreciated.

jay has a working carb fan in his truck. Bring your camera tonight and hopefully we can get you some good pics. I have a fan in my truck but not sure if there is a difference from 60 to 62 fans.

It just bolts to the inner fender wall below the hood support, and has a wire harness that clips in. I don't have a picture though, sorry.

is there a temp sensor somewhere that tells it to turn off? i just want to make sure i have it so it just doesnt keep running and drain my battery.

do you have the plug for that fan? i remember when i took mine off that there are 5 bolts holding it up and a plug off the wiring harness. i tested my plug and it doesnt have 12 votls when the truck is on. it think the computer tells it when to turn off.

I believe this sensor that is bolted under the manifold goes to the carb cooling fan.
As long as it's still there and hooked up as well as your fan harness it should work even if desmogged.:cheers:

hmm- that is not there- any ideas for getting some sort of timer? or do I need to find a sensor and reinstall it? anyone have one?

I have the sensor, but the wiring that connects to the fan is fried.:frown:

Do you have a photo of the sensor hooked to the fan harness?

I believe the sensor makes the circuit. 12 volts applied when motor is off. Heat closes the sensor, grounds the circuit and the fan runs until the sensor opens and possible a timed amount as well? "would have to read the book on that again" I also have the sensor, wire and fan assembly available if needed. I live in Seattle. Make me an offer and pay the postage and it is yours.

What exactly this fan does? Mine quit working and I cannot tell difference in the truck performance. :-{

On a carbed engine after running the carb gets really warm. So when you shut it off the fan kicks on to cool it down so that it starts up easier. At least that was my understanding, but correct me if I'm wrong. I just grounded mine to a bolt on the body because the wire was all corroded. It runs for half an hour every time I shut the engine off, but I don't think its enough to drain the battery. Well at least I hope not.

so you dont have the circuit? So I can just connect it to the harness and let it ride?

The sensor is below the manifild as Joe E's photograph illustrates. However, the mounting stud on my 85 2F is right near where the manifold and down pipe connect. The problem is that the stock sensor wire does not seem to be able to take the heat in that area. As a result, I have had to replace the last section many times. Currently I have a section of #12 NMB housewire in that position. Another point is that the mounting stud accepts the threaded top of a regular spark plug if you need to replace the mounting nut. Good luck. N.M. P.S.
