IMO I would steer clear from a welded diff.

Yea I saw that too. Looks like they may already be sold anyway. I'm seriously looking into getting two new third members from East Coast Gear Supply with a core return.
How hard would it be to install lockers down the road? Not sure if I have the money to spend on lockers right now.

IMO the lockers are the easiest part of a setup. It's the gears that require the most work.

Depends on what kind of locker you want, Lock-Rite style will drop in without issue since you are not removing the carrier. If your going with a new carrier style like ARB then better to do it all at once since you will have to re-set up the diff.

I agree that if you are able to do it all at once you save a bunch of labor. I have some experience with this as I didn't always have the money to do it at once. In my experience, all the differentials I have installed with reusing the gear set kept the exact same carrier preload settings and pinion shim depth. Standard practice is that you always recheck everything. I'm quite impressed how non factory diffs have been that spot on. Probably isn't always the case but I haven't seen it. Too bad the ring and pinion manufacturers aren't as spot on. Interesting thing about the lock right is that sometimes you can't get them in spec with the shims, but they work ok anyways.

Brennan,

If you're going to have your diffs rebuilt, I would highly recommend using zuk linked earlier in this thread. I would want Koyo bearings, Toyota seals, and upgrade to a solid pinion spacer to help avoid your pinion walking which I believe is one of the biggest issues that can destroy a ring and pinion set on an off-road truck. Good luck!
