rebuilding the A440

so i found a good shop that will do it for almost half what the first shop quoted me (almost $5k). the only difference being a 1 year warranty where the other shop was 3 years.

i want to get the trans fixed next week if i can and i was looking into the extreme valve bodies with the 3rd and 4th gear lockup. i read something that mentioned a need for a super low stall convertor with this installed, is this true? are their any additional things that i must install along with this valve body?

im planning on having the shop rebuild it to stock form and if i do get the valve body, how hard would it be to install the new one myself? i know next to nothing about working on autos and i havent recieved my FSM yet so im a bit lost right now

I'd get the whole transmission from rodney rather than having it rebuilt locally. It may end up running $1K more, but it is a 300K mile solution.

You don't need a low stall converter behind the 3fe, nor does the custom valve body make it necessary.

I would install a tranny cooler, and a tranny temp guage while I was down there.

If you do have the shop rebuild it, have them put the new valve body in there. They should come down off their price a bit for the parts savings. It's really easy to install, but if you make a mistake there are bigish consequences.

tranny cooler is definitely going in. not sure where I will put the gauge but I've been thinking of installing a temp gauge too

the 300km warranty is great but if I should have to use it for some reason, I can't imagine what a headache it will be.

No waranty, it's just a lot better rebuild than most indy shops since he does it all the time.

Pull the pan, unbolt the valve body reverse procedure.

id like to have the 5speed but I also want to keep it close to stock. if I ever do get the time and money to put in a 5 speed, chances are will be with a V8 in front of it
