Hi all.
I'm going to rebuild the third member in my HJ47. I have been told the FJ40 bearing kits are the same. Is this correct?

Noel

That's correct, so long as it is for an '81 - '84 FJ40 or an '81 - '87 FJ60. A better idea in my opinion is to get an entire third member from the front of a US FJ60 from '81 - '87 and replace the third member completely to get the 3:73 gears. You will LOVE how much happier your HJ47 will be with higher gears. Of course you will have to replace the front and rear third members...

Any photos of your rig?

Josh

Is the front diff the first, and the rear the third making the t'fer the second?

That's just plain silly.

The gearbox is the second, the transfer is the third, so the rear diff is actually the fourth.

Although ... what does that make my power-take-off? :frown:

I don't think I was being unreasonable. I was after information.

Lay it out for us.
