So my '06 LX is up for service and I am making a shopping list of stuff I will need to do have the 90k done.

I know it is time for the timing belt and I did do my forum search. I especially liked this write up.
But the more I read on the subject the longer the list of parts (and labor) gets.
Timing belt, water pump, tensioners, idlers, T stat, seals etc.. Some even suggest to replace the starter motor, alternator, thermostat hoses and the list goes on, just because of easy access and/or cheap insurance. It almost seems like an engine rebuilt and overkill to me. :hhmm:

I have had the LX for a year now and absolutely love this thing. I don't wheel it and I think it has a pretty easy life (apart from our extreme seasons). I did about 25k miles this year.

My question is simple. What would be reasonable to replace during the first 90k service. I don't want to waste money and replace parts that are perfectly fine for another 90k.

Btw, I put this totally unrelated picture in this post because I know we all like pictures ;p

I'd just go with what the normal service interval requires, plus the water pump and tensioner given that, with the timing belt replacement, you are in there anyways. Forums are built of people who like to work on their trucks so lots of what I would consider non essentials get thrown in. I've got over 300k on my 98 LC and have no issues whatsoever in following the recommended maintenance schedule.

Great thanks !

I always inset on OEM Toyota parts. But I was looking online and found this package. It's a AISIN Waterpump and a Mitsuboshi belt and some Koyo bearings.

Are these parts comparable (or even the same) with the stuff I would order at the Toyota dealership?
Maybe these companies even supply Toyota?

Hit up Cruiser Dan or Beno as that combo price does not look that great to me. They will also help make sure you don't forget any important little bits. HTH.

I just received a quote today. Same price, 1100ish, but not a Toyota dealer. I service all my vehicles there and I trust them.

Thats good to know. The local toyota dealer here has a great reputation. Wasn't sure how out of line that quote was. Thanks
