Went to have the sun strip put on my windshield today an the place doing it could not take off the rear view mirror and did not want to risk shattering my windshield. The lexus dealership here in town said they could do it but would have to pay an hours labor at 125$. so before i spend the hundred bucks, do any of yall have experience taking off the rear view mirror safely?

I broke mine off a few months ago as I bumped the mirror pretty hard and ripped the mounting piece right off the windshield. After gluing the mounting piece back on, the rear view mirror assembly simply screws back on with one (maybe 2) screws. It's quite simple. Just look for the screws and start unscrewing.

the metal mount that is affixed to the windshield is EXTREMELY hard to remove from the windshield and you risk chipping the glass. The sun strip should be cut out from the outside and then installed over the little windshield mount. Remove the first screw you see on the mount, then there are two smaller screws holding the black plate to the metal mount affixed to the glass. From there, install the tint.

This applies to the mirror mounts I have on my LXs. If yours is different, the process is probably similar, but not word for word.

Alright thanks guys
