This weekend i hooked up a rear view camera and tapped the DS kick panel. On a 2001 LC there is a RED/BLUE cable on a large square connector there. When i tested the camera worked as it should. Put shifter in reveres and camera came on.

Unfortunately i put everything back too soon.

I noticed that when the reverse cable is connected to the stereo nothing else works. When i disconnect the reverse cable all functions work but i have to manually turn on the camera when the shifter is in reverse.

Not sure if i tapped the right wire or if i should run cable to the rear reverse light and tap there. I ran out of cable so i could not tap the reverse light for testing. I also looked at the ECU but there is no RED/BLUE cable to tap.

Any ideas?

my guess is you need to reverse the polarity in the head unit options. Some cars are + and some a - when in reverse.
It should be accessed in one of the headunits option menus

I hooked my camera up this weekend to. I pulled the power off the rear reverse light. I then ran a line from the reverse light wire back up to the green and white stereo wire to trigger the camera. It worked perfectly. Did you ever get rid of the hiss and popping?

If the above doesn't fix the problem...

I get easily confused - is the end goal to power the camera or to tell the headunit you are in reverse?

My 2000 LX Wiring diagram for the back-up light suggests the red/blue wire is hot to the park/neutral/reverse switch, but the wire that would have power flow only when the switch is in reverse is red/black. Keep in mind I had the Nakamichi headunit so there is a fair chance the wiring is not identical.

Anyway, I tapped into the red/back after it came out of pin 12 of connector ID1 inside the DS kick panel. The wire goes into a bundle that goes off down the DS channel next to the seat eventually going to the reverse lights. Pic on post #30 of this thread has a view of the connector in question. As noted above this is only hot when in reverse, and since I have a Pioneer headunit I have to tell it the camera polarity is "Battery". For the actual camera power and ground, I tapped the wires at the reverse lights in the tailgate, running only the video lead up to the dash.

That said, there is other useful stuff in the thread too about tapping at the ECU.

@LBridges I read that post but must have missed that reply. I will test this weekend.

@Emcd I still have hissing on the stereo. I have been wanting to test the ground directly from the battery but i dont have any more wires and will be ordering some hopefully this week. Ill try ti post an update on my build thread.

Thank you both for the tips.

I did read where that was an option, but my stereo does not have that feature.

Pics? Where did you tap into reverse at?
